Battlefield 6 kicks off Season 5 with two great maps, but the biggest new feature for me won’t arrive until December

Battlefield kicks off its biggest season yet on October 13, 2026, with two new maps. I’ve played them, but I’m even more excited about something else entirely.

Happy anniversary, Battlefield 6! On October 10, 2026, the multiplayer shooter turned one year old. And my goodness, what an eventful year it’s been: four seasons, eight new maps, plenty of bug fixes and improvements. But there have also been discussions about map sizes, skins, challenges, and balancing.

Battlefield 6 is by no means a perfect shooter, but I’ve stuck with it for a year anyway and kept playing, with just a few short breaks. A lot of things have improved since then, and Season 5 is expanding the arsenal with more maps, weapons, and vehicles. I’ve already had a chance to try it out, but I’m still most excited about a mechanic that the developers have shown very little of so far.

Las Vegas is a highlight

I spent about 90 minutes testing out the two new maps, which will be released on October 13 to kick off the season. I played exclusively in Conquest mode:

  • Vegas Strip: Here, we fight on foot, with tanks, or in helicopters for control of the famous casinos of Las Vegas. I really liked the map right from the start, as its bright colors and luxurious buildings make it stand out visually from all previous maps. There’s also an incredible amount of space here, with plenty of hallways and rooms for hiding and flanking maneuvers. It’s a chaotic map in the best possible way.

  • Area 51: A very large map featuring tanks, helicopters, and jets. A paradise for snipers, who can take fire at nearly every corner of the map. The significant elevation changes provide even better visibility from the rocky hills. At the same time, however, there’s plenty of cover and many underground passages to avoid vehicles.

Both maps made a good impression on me when I tried them out—at least that’s true for Conquest. It remains to be seen how the maps will perform in Breakthrough, as there have been recurring issues with the layouts and capture zones in the past.

The biggest season—and the most important update?

The fact that Battlefield 6 is delivering two new maps right at the start of the season is definitely a step in the right direction. With an additional map, two new vehicles, and a total of 6 weapons, Season 5 will be the shooter’s biggest content pack to date. The developers wouldn’t tell us whether this trend will continue, though—let’s hope so. There will definitely be more seasons, though; Battlefield 6 is likely to have a longer lifespan than its predecessor.

But there’s one new feature that’s particularly important to me that I haven’t even mentioned yet: The server browser will launch alongside the final chapter of Season 5 on December 8, 2026. Even now, though, there are some details that give me hope: For example, there will be both official servers and community servers with fixed rotations. Players will also be able to host persistent servers that remain online permanently.

One of the reasons I’ve been hoping for a server browser, however, might disappear with Season 5. That’s because the two arguably worst maps in Battlefield 6—New Sobek and Blackwell Fields—are being revamped. Whether this will truly resolve all the maps’ issues remains unclear: the announced changes don’t sound all that extensive.

For me, though, the server browser is still an indispensable feature that should have been available at launch. After all, the playlists without a fixed rotation keep throwing me onto the same map over and over again.

While I can specifically play a certain map using the search function, a server browser ideally allows me to do much more: For example, I can play on servers that use only a specific selection of maps (only infantry maps or only the best All-Out Warfare maps), or perhaps even let players vote on the next map.

A prominently placed server browser could bring community servers back into the spotlight. They already exist, but they’re hidden under the “Portal” label in some submenus that very few players ever open. Now Dice just can’t mess this up—I’m keeping my fingers crossed for us!
