A massive shield, new moves, and a story that promises more than just demon carnage: Doom: The Dark Ages is getting closer, and the brand-new trailer now offers a first glimpse of the plot. The release is scheduled for May 15, 2025, but fans are already eagerly anticipating it.

The trailer focuses not only on the iconic Doom Slayer, but also on his dark past and a world ravaged by war and darkness. Unlike previous spin-offs, The Dark Ages focuses more on staging, cinematic cutscenes and deeper characters – without losing the action-packed core of the series.

The Slayer returns – but this time everything is different

The new equipment is particularly striking: The Slayer now fights with a massive shield that not only serves as defense but can also be used as a devastating weapon. This noticeably changes the flow of the game – it’s more tactical, but no less brutal. Initial gameplay footage shows how the shield can be used in combination with the classic shotgun to devastating effect.

There are also hints of an even stronger connection to the lore of the Doom universe Ancient prophecies, forgotten empires, and mystical powers seem to play a bigger role this time around. Even though the pace remains as fast as ever, the new Doom clearly wants to tell more than just the story of a lone warrior fighting against hell.

With the trailer released today (April 22), the release is not only getting closer, but the game is also revealing its narrative ambitions. The title is being developed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S – exclusively for the current console generation.

The release dateon May 15 remains unchanged, and the community is eagerly awaiting the day. The new trailer from Bethesda Softworks makes it clear: Doom: The Dark Ages will be more than just a fast-paced action extravaganza – it could be the most atmospheric chapter in the series yet.
