More multi-frame generation and a new transformer model are set to breathe new life into the upscaling feature.
After AMD came closer to the quality of DLSS with FSR Redstone, Nvidia is showing that it still has a few tricks up its sleeve with the new DLSS 4.5.
In addition to a fresh Transformer model, dynamic frame generation and an increase in the number of images generated entirely by AI are also included.
New Transformer Model
With DLSS 4, Nvidia has replaced the previous CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) with a Transformer model, producing a sharper image and reducing graphic artifacts.
Now Nvidia is introducing its second-generation Transformer model.
As expected, this should give you an even better image. That means less edge flickering and ghosting, as well as a sharper image overall.

Here’s how it works: Nvidia used larger data sets to better train the AI.
The model was also trained to recognize known sources of error such as lighting and disocclusion (revealing hidden objects).

In addition, the model has more computing power and its understanding of context has also been improved. In other words, the Transformer model better understands relationships in images and is better able to coordinate them.
Which graphics cards does this apply to? The new Transformer model will be available on all RTX graphics cards starting with the spring release.
Dynamic and 6x Multi Frame Generation
Multi Frame Generation gets two enhancements with DLSS 4.5: Dynamic Multi Frame Gen and Multi Frame Gen 6x.
Dynamic Frame Gen adapts to your desired target FPS and automatically switches between 2x and 6x Frame Gen. If the raw performance of the GPU is high enough, fewer AI images can be used (or more, if necessary).

Multi Frame Gen 6x generates five additional AI-generated frames in addition to a rendered frame and, in the best case scenario, increases your FPS enormously. Previously, a maximum of 4x was possible. That is, one rendered frame and three generated frames.
In the end, however, it’s not the frame rate that counts, but the gaming experience. It remains to be seen how well the new feature performs in practice. In general, impressions can vary greatly depending on the game and the overall FPS.
Which graphics cards does this affect? As before, Multi Frame Generation remains reserved for the new features of the RTX 50 series.
When is DLSS 4.5 coming?
An exact date has not yet been set, but the new version is expected to be released in spring 2026.
According to Nvidia, over 400 games are already compatible with the new Transformer model at launch. However, experience shows that the rollout of the new features for Multi Frame Generation is likely to be much slower.
