Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults has just been announced and is launching a Kickstarter campaign. The role-playing game even brings back a character from Kingmaker

The name Pathfinder has been synonymous with a terrific role-playing experience on PC for a few years now, thanks to the oldschool role-playing games from Owlcat Games. Now a new game based around Pathfinder has been announced, which is not from Owlcat, but relies on the same game concept as Diablo. Fans of the Owlcat games will also see an old acquaintance again.

Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults is being developed by BKOM Studios in Canada (Sunday Gold, Tales from Candlekeep), in collaboration with Pathfinder publisher Paizo. As was once the case with Kingmaker, development is not yet completely in the bag. The project is just about to launch its Kickstarter campaign and is still raising money for development accordingly.

Some gameplay scenes from a very early version can be seen in the announcement trailer:

Action role-playing game with familiar faces

Not much is known about the exact gameplay details yet. However, it will apparently be a pure action role-playing game like Diablo made it popular. You”ll fight your way through monsters in droves with a class of your choice and scour dark dungeons for valuable equipment.

As with Owlcat”s games, the studio also relies on an adventure that already exists in written form called Abomination Vaults. This is a three-part pen and paper campaign that explores a massive dungeon, in the depths of which the evil witch Belcorra Haruvex creates an army of monsters.

We still know little about the planned classes. However, there will be at least four of them, after all, the action RPG is also supposed to support co-op for up to four players. We have already seen a few classes. Among them is Amiri, a heroine from Pathfinder: Kingmaker.

(Four classes are known so far, one of them is a heroine from Pathfinder: Kingmaker.)

  • Barbarian: Amiri will most likely be the barbarian class of Abomination Vaults and will put her opponents in close combat with big weapons.
  • Wizard: There was also already a wizard to watch, which is Ezren. A famous NPC from pen and paper.
  • Ranger: In the artwork you can see a dwarf going into battle with axes and crossbows. Fans of the original know the ranger by the name Harsk. This seems to be a classic hybrid class.
  • Cleric: In addition, the images also show an oriental fighter, who is a cleric named Kyra. So a class that does both magic and melee combat.

The success of the Kickstarter campaign, however, will most likely determine how many classes will ultimately be included at release. (The campaign hasn”t started yet, but you can get informed now).

What do you think about the project? Are you happy about such a competition for Diablo or do you just want more stories in the world of Pathfinder? Do you already know the story campaign from pen & paper? Would you be willing to participate in the Kickstarter campaign or will you wait and see? Let us know in the comments!
