Control: Resonant unveiled its gameplay for the first time at State of Play. The new character Dylan can rotate the entire world as she pleases.
After being locked up in a secret agency for supernatural occurrences in Control, the sequel Control: Resonant takes us to a city populated by monsters, reminiscent of Inception: streets suddenly lead at right angles straight up into the sky, and when we look up, we see the roofs of other buildings protruding downwards or sideways.
Now, in the new trailer, we see for the first time what this means for gameplay.
Gravity? Doesn’t interest me.
The character Dylan can not only perform double jumps, dodge, and float for a short time, he can also manipulate gravity: If a nearby building is rotated by 90 degrees, for example, we simply jump onto the roof using one of our abilities and gravity adjusts to the angle of the skyscraper for us. So from our perspective, the whole world is spinning. It’s difficult to explain, but just watch the trailer:
But this isn’t just a cool effect, it can also be exploited in combat. For example, we can quickly reach an elevated position that initially seems unreachable and jump onto the back of a boss enemy that was just above us. This allows us to hit its weak spot and cause massive damage.
The new trailer also shows a few boss enemies. For example, we face a flying giant monster that shoots multiple laser beams and drops a kind of carpet bombing. At the very end of the video, we also catch a glimpse of one of the most dangerous enemies, the Resonant: it looks quite similar to a human, is fast, and beats us with two sticks.
As in the previous game, we only use one weapon in combat, but it can be transformed for different situations. Whereas in the previous game it was a pistol, we now wield a melee weapon that can take the form of a giant hammer, a staff, or a blade. Control: Resonant will be released in 2026 for PC, PS 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
