The sequel to Control will be released next year, but without Jesse Faden in the lead role. We reveal what else Remedy is turning upside down.

It was an open secret that a sequel to Control had been in development for several years. Now it’s official: Remedy’s next big game will be released in 2026 – but it’s not Control 2 … because the sequel is called Control: Resonant.

And according to the developer, there’s a good reason for that: after all, both games are supposed to tell independent stories and can be played in any order. While we accompanied Jesse in the predecessor, in Resonant we slip into the role of Dylan. Yes, you heard right. Control: Resonant swaps the red-haired heroine for her brother.

We’ll now briefly explain what else Remedy is turning upside down and why the developers themselves describe their latest project as a risky sequel.

Jesse Faden makes way

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room first: Jesse Faden will no longer be playing the lead role in Control: Resonant.

The game picks up seven years after the events of Part 1. Dylan awakens from a coma in his chamber in the Elder House – but something is very wrong. Jesse seems to have disappeared, and supernatural forces are making their way out of the FBC office and onto the streets of Manhattan.

According to the developer, you don’t need to have played the previous game to follow the story of Resonant.
This is because both games are designed to tell their own stories. For Remedy, the siblings Jesse and Dylan Faden were at the center of Control from the very beginning. The first part gave us a glimpse of Jesse, who stumbled into a world completely unknown to her while searching for her brother and discovered supernatural powers in the process.
Now the tables are turned and we accompany Dylan, who knows nothing but the walls of the Elder House. He grew up in the middle of the FBC office and is now seeing the world for the very first time since his abduction as a child.

The Oldest House Falls

The FBC office, also known as the Oldest House, actually forms a kind of barrier to the outside world. This is because dangerous objects, known as Altered Items, are stored and kept under control inside. In Control: Resonant, the FBC loses this control and supernatural forces take over Manhattan.

The first images in the trailer are reminiscent of Inception, when the urban building facades suddenly bend in all directions. Incidentally, Resonant does not have an open world: a supernatural barrier forms around Manhattan, keeping Dylan in the neighborhood. So, similar to its predecessor, we can expect open areas within a guided story.

Of course, we can also look forward to side quests and small side stories this time around. Dylan is not the only survivor and encounters FBC agents or other people here and there.

More role-playing

There will also be a major change in gameplay: Remedy wants to incorporate more role-playing elements into its action-adventure concept. The developers have not yet revealed exactly what this will look like. However, we will have even more options to customize our gameplay and experiment with Dylan’s abilities and weapons.

Speaking of weapons, Dylan’s trusty companion is called “Aberrant” (which means “deviating from the norm”). This weapon can take on different forms. The trailer gives us a first taste of this. In it, Dylan wields a double blade, which he then combines back into a single weapon. Later, he throws himself into battle with a giant hammer. Of course, there is also a strong emphasis on the nimble movement we already know from Jesse.

”No safe sequel”

The developers haven’t yet revealed whether we can look forward to a musical level this time around and whether Poets of the Fall/The Old Gods of Asgard will return. However, they did hint that music will play a major role in some form. The game title could also be a clue. “Resonant” means “resonating, echoing, sounding full.” But we won’t know exactly what that means until the game is released.

But it shouldn’t be long now. Remedy has not only announced the new game, but also its release year: Control: Resonant is set to be released in 2026 for PC (Steam, Epic), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This fits in with the new release cycle that Remedy has been aiming for since Firebreak – one Remedy game per year.

According to Remedy, Control: Resonant is set to be their most expensive game to date. With all the changes, they are taking a risk, and the developers themselves are aware of this. They describe Resonant as “not a safe sequel.” After their last risky game, FBC: Firebreak (a spin-off of the Control series, by the way), flopped in 2025, it remains to be seen whether the high stakes will pay off this time around.
