Borderlands 4 will receive a wealth of new content in the coming months. At the end of January, developer Gearbox published a detailed roadmap covering free and paid expansions through the third quarter of 2026.
In addition to new DLCs, technical improvements and enhancements for the endgame are also planned.
The shooter received mixed reviews after its release. While critics were mostly positive, the reactions of the gaming community were significantly worse in some cases. Regardless, Borderlands 4 made it onto the list of best-selling games of 2025.

First update already available

The first major update is already live. It adds a photo mode to the game and marks the start of the announced roadmap. Further content updates will follow later this month.

However, the actual expansions will only begin with the next planned releases. Gearbox makes a clear distinction between free updates and paid additional content.

Paid Bounty Pack and new equipment tier

Bounty Pack 2, titled Legend of the Stone Demon, will be released in February. The pack includes a new mission, additional legendary loot, and other cosmetic content. Unlike the first Bounty Pack, this expansion is paid content.

At the same time, Pearlescent Gear, a new equipment rarity, will be introduced. This is ranked higher than Legendary items and is available to all players regardless of whether they purchase additional content.

First Story Pack brings new region and Vault Hunter

This will be followed later by the first major story pack, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. This expands the game with a new region on Kairos, additional story missions, and a new playable Vault Hunter.

The new character is named C4SH. He is a former casino dealer bot who will be integrated into the game as a playable character.

Planned convenience features and system-wide changes

In addition to new content, numerous quality-of-life improvements are also planned. These include an increase in the level cap, cross-platform saves, and shared progress between all Vault Hunters. World progress and class-independent unlocks will apply account-wide in the future.

Additional free events are also planned to regularly expand the gaming experience.

Expansion of the endgame from 2026 onwards

Starting in the second quarter of 2026, the endgame is also set to be significantly expanded. New raid bosses, additional takedown missions, and other endgame activities of varying scope are planned.

Gearbox has hinted that further content is planned, but no details are currently available.
