Battlefield 2042 is one of the most anticipated games of this year, but Esport fans may have to wait. The new part of the series is not to get a ranked mode for the time being.

Those looking for Esport tournaments or ranked modes in Battlefield 2042 will be disappointed at first. The title focuses only on regular multiplayer at release and has nothing planned for competitive players yet. The reason for this could be a new Battlefield part.

Battlefield 2042 will not have ranked modes, but these could be added at a later date. The developers will work on competitive elements if that is what the gaming community wants.

Justin Wiebe, the head of the studio Ripple Effect (formerly DICE LA), shared this in an interview with the French community “Battlefield Nation”:

Ripple Effect Studios is responsible for Battlefield Portal, which is supposed to connect several spin-offs. However, there’s another reason why Battlefield 2042 won’t have competitive modes for now.

Hazard Zone as the reason

Known leaker Tom Henderson thinks ranked modes and the esports scene will be Hazard Zone in the Battlefield part. This should then get a similar amount of support as Fortnite or Call of Duty: Warzone.

In a summary for investors, EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed the existence of Hazard Zone. It was mentioned there that this part is a service. Games as a service are becoming more and more popular at the moment. Besides regular updates, these titles are mostly Free-2-Play in this model.

Hazard Zone will also contain such a Free-2-Play component and will receive many updates. Whether this part will be a completely separate game or a part of Battlefield 2042 remains to be seen.
