An industry insider has revealed that Rocksteady is apparently working on a Batman game again and that Sony is trying to get exclusive rights for the title.

After Rocksteady’s loot-shooter Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League flopped and even led to mass layoffs, the studio is now supposed to return to its strengths and develop a new Batman game. At least that’s what an industry insider claims. In this article, you’ll learn what’s true about the leak and why PlayStation users in particular should take notice.

For many, it could be a dream come true

Rocksteady’s last Batman game is Batman: Arkham Knight, which concluded the legendary Arkham trilogy. But the title is already celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2025. As industry insider Shpeshal Nick claims, the studio is now supposed to return to its roots. When asked who the dream developer for the next Batman game was, he replied:

Not sure which studio people’s dream is, but I heard Rocksteady are back making it.

What kind of game will it be? The question remains whether it will be a classic single-player adventure again or whether you can expect a live service or multiplayer game again. The only thing that is certain, according to Nick, is that it will not be a remaster of an Arkham game. We at GlobalESportNews definitely agree on what we want for the next Rocksteady game.

In March 2024, publisher Warner Bros. Games announced that it would move away from classic AAA titles and focus more on live services. It should be noted that Warner made the announcement over a month after the release of Suicide Squad. This raises the question of whether the debacle will significantly influence decisions regarding the next Batman game.

Sony pulls out the money

Shpeshal Nick also claims that Sony is trying to secure some form of exclusivity for the game. He writes about this:

I also believe that Sony is trying to buy [the game].

This could mean different types of exclusivity. In the recent past, Sony has mainly used time-limited exclusivity. This means that games initially appear exclusively on the in-house console and only appear on other platforms at a later date.

How serious should we take the leak? Shpeshal Nick has made many accurate and correct predictions in the past, particularly on Xbox-related topics. However, there have also been false reports. Nick himself emphasizes that although he is well connected, his information relates to content that is still in development. This means that they can still change frequently. As always, the leak should be treated with caution.
