With the ARC Raiders Shrouded Sky update, Embark Studios is introducing a new hurricane map condition that is set to significantly change gameplay. The update will be released on February 24 and expands the existing system of dynamic weather events.
In a trailer, the studio shows how powerful storms will sweep across maps such as Spaceport in the future. Electromagnetic storms and “cold snap” conditions already had an impact on matches. However, the hurricane goes one step further and directly affects movement, visibility, and combat mechanics.
Hurricane affects PvP and PvE
During the storm, strong gusts of wind affect players and their surroundings. Movement, stamina consumption, and the use of certain equipment items are noticeably affected.
Running with the wind can easily increase your speed. Headwinds, on the other hand, slow you down and increase stamina loss. Throwing items also react to weather conditions. Gas grenades and similar items behave more unpredictably in strong winds.
In addition, visibility is significantly reduced. Flying debris can become a hazard. This means that the new map condition is not only visually staged, but also directly influences tactical decisions.
Higher risk in the storm, better loot chances
As with other events in ARC Raiders, more danger means potentially higher rewards. The Shrouded Sky update increases the chance of finding more valuable loot during the hurricane.
Among other things, Raider Caches and relics from the so-called First Wave are mentioned. Players who deliberately remain in the storm take a higher risk, but can receive better loot in return.
Additional content in the February update
In addition to the new weather condition, the ARC Raiders Shrouded Sky update includes further changes:
- An update for the Raider Deck
- A map overhaul
- A new ARC threat
The trailer shows a short teaser of this new threat. In addition, a new expedition will start the day after the update. This will reset the rankings.
Roadmap: March and April already planned
The “Flashpoint” update is scheduled for March, which will once again introduce a new map condition. “Riven Tides” will follow in April with a completely new map.
At the same time, Embark Studios is continuing its measures against cheating and has announced further bans for players who exploit loopholes.
