It’s practically a steal: The price for *Nobody Wants to Die* has rarely been this low. Who should pick up the DRM-free version on GOG or the Steam key?

When a cinematic gem flies completely under the radar of the masses,it breaks my heart. Especially when it’s a dark vision of the future that’s in a league of its own visually and atmospherically.

A Dark Glimpse into the Year 2329

The game I’m talking about is calledNobody Wants to Die. It was released less than two years ago and went almost completely unnoticed by most players.

The raw numbers speak for themselves:At launch, the peak number of playersjust 1,310 detectives were searching for clues at the same timeat its peak. Yet this adventure deserves much more attention, asthe Steam reviewsshow: 83 percent of user reviews are positive.

I, too, really enjoyed playing through this short trip to New York in the year 2329. In this future, humanity has outsmarted death, much like in the great Netflix series Altered Carbon. For a hefty sum, consciousness can be stored in the cloud and transferred into new bodies.

In Nobody Wants to Die, I take on the role of the burned-out cop James Karra. Whena serial killerpreys on the wealthy elite and permanently destroys their data storage, a classic film noir investigation begins.

Who is Nobody Wants to Die for?

This detective adventure is perfect for you if:

  • … love a dark cyberpunk setting in the style of Blade Runner or Altered Carbon and want to fully immerse yourself in a rainy neon dystopia.
  • … place great value on a gripping, cinematic story and top-notch visuals thanks to Unreal Engine 5.
  • … are looking for a short, focused adventure for one or two evenings that tells its story concisely without artificial padding.

This game is less suitable if you:

  • … need a lot of variety in gameplay, as the five crime scenes are investigated using the same procedures and tools every time.
  • … expect action-packed shootouts, gameplay challenges, or complex puzzles, as the mechanics are very simple and forgiving.
  • … want a long playtime for your money or are looking for a freely explorable, open game world beyond the linear criminal cases.

Alternatives

Shadows of Doubt offers more freedom—a complex detective simulation where you collect fingerprints, hack cameras, and coordinate your investigations on a bulletin board entirely on your own in aprocedurally generated sandbox city

Those who appreciate the cinematic opulence of Nobody Wants to Die but miss real consequences will find the perfect equivalent inDetroit: Become Humanwithrobots as protagonists.

For fans ofoppressive cyberpunk horrorwe recommendObserver. In this thriller, you play as an investigator who hacks directly into the minds of suspects and navigates nightmarish, surreal labyrinths in search of clues.

Conclusion

Despite its simple gameplay, Nobody Wants to Die is, in my opinion, an absolute must-play for fans of dense atmospheres. Anyone who can overlook the repetitive mechanics and instead appreciates a gripping narrative will get their money’s worth.

At the current price of four euros on GOG.com, fans of cyberpunk and dystopian stories can’t go wrong.
