A US church is using the Steam logo, and the internet is reacting exactly as you’d expect: “Praise our Lord and Savior Gaben.”

You can probably recognize Steam’s iconic logo from miles away. But have you ever seen the crank on a church?

For many PC gamers, Steam is one of the most frequently used applications. You may look at the blue and white logo of Valve’s gaming platform several times a day without really paying attention to it.

But if the logo were to appear in an unusual place away from your desktop, you would surely take a second look. Perhaps on advertising posters in the city center or in a news report? Or even on a sign, right in front of a church.

“Should we pray here for the unboxing of knives?”

A user on Reddit shared a photo of his unusual find. It appears that a US church is using the official Steam logo on the sign in front of its place of worship.

Is this where we go to worship for the knife unboxing?

The user jokingly titles his post “Should we pray for the unboxing of knives here?” He is referring to the trade in weapons and skins from Counter-Strike 2, which until recently were worth a lot of money.

The replies under the thread are also full of jokes. So, without further ado, the well-known memes of Gabe Newell as Jesus, followed by comments that the praise ”Lord and Savior.”. At the same time, however, one wonders how this use of the Steam logo came about, because at first glance there is no real connection between the two worlds.

I would really like to know how they got the logo. What did they search for online? It’s obviously not a logo from a free collection. I’m sure the pastor’s son said, “Dad, I have a logo for you.”

However, the Christian church and Steam do have one thing in common, as user Dotcaprachiappa notes: “So we have the Bible, Bible 2 – New Testament Boogaloo, and Bible 3 is nowhere to be found. So the logo fits quite well after all.”

In fact, this is not the first time that a New Jerusalem Church sign with the Steam logo has appeared. Two years ago, a Steam user a similar display when he happened to drive past it. This user wondered whether he should report the church for copyright infringement. And it’s true:
The Steam logo is protected by copyright and may only be used by third parties under certain circumstances, for example, when developers want to promote their game by stating that it can be purchased on Steam and played via the platform. utm_source=chatgpt.com“ data-icon=”external”>used by third parties under certain circumstances, for example when developers want to advertise their game by saying that it can be purchased on Steam and played via the platform. However, a church is unlikely to fall under this category.

However, since the New Jerusalem Church sign is apparently still standing intact, Valve does not seem to have taken any legal action so far. It probably does not cause any real damage anyway.

What does the Steam logo actually mean?

When you consider what the Steam logo actually represents, it’s even more baffling that a church would use this symbol. Valve has been using it for the platform since its launch in 2003  a variation of the same logo for its platform.
The blue circle was added in 2014. In both versions, cranks and connecting rods are depicted.
If you’re not familiar with the craft or the world of steam locomotives, these are the parts that set the vehicle in motion. This means that the logo is clearly linked to the name of the platform. Steam means “Dampf” in German, which in turn fits perfectly with the parent company Valve (“Ventil”).

But even this name wasn’t decided on from the start, so Steam could just as easily have been called something completely different and the logo could have looked different. Would the New Jerusalem Church have used this symbol then?
