Fortnite tested a new mode that allowed strangers to talk to each other. This led to numerous insults and harassment.

Over the weekend from Friday, September 19 to Monday, September 22, 2025, Fortnite introduced a new game mode called Delulu. The new feature is a proximity chat that allows players to talk to strangers who are in close proximity.

As expected, this led to chaos and countless insults and harassment. In response, Epic deleted thousands of reported accounts. The next round is set to start this weekend.

Epic responds – sort of

In theory, Delulu mode sounds exciting. You meet other players in Battle Royale rounds and can chat with them via proximity chat, allowing you to team up at times. However, there is always the risk of being betrayed. After all, only one person can win in the end. However, the reality is different, and there has been a flood of complaints.

From a IGN report shows that thousands of players were harassed, insulted or discriminated against because of their accent, age or gender. For example, Forever_Winter13 on Reddit:

So far, it’s been awful for me. I’ve been playing solo, and there hasn’t been a single game where I haven’t had horrible things said to me that I don’t want to repeat here. I just want to have fun and enjoy the game.

Similar reports Glitter_Fox_:

For the most part, everything was fine. But there was a group of guys who kept ending up in the same lobbies as me and deliberately targeted anyone with a female voice. They actually shouted ‘equality’ every time they shot you.

Epic responds on X and encourages players to report violations of the code of conduct immediately so that they can respond as quickly as possible. This includes instructions on how to do so.

In the same statement, Epic reports that it already deleted thousands of accounts last weekend due to behavioral violations. Whether this has had any effect will become clear this coming weekend. Delulu will start its second round between September 26 and 29, 2025. The term “Delulu” stands for the English word ‘delusional’ and means something like “delusional.” Unfortunately, this title is fitting for the new mode, as Fortnite may have actually felt quite delusional for many players over the weekend. Until a solution is found, it is advisable to either keep a thick skin or stay away from the mode for the time being.
