After OG, another eSports organization has made itTeam Spirit again Dota 2 World Champion

After OG, another eSports organization has managed to crown itself Dota 2 World Champion yet another time. Team Spirit impressively beat Gaimin Gladiators 3-0 in the finals of The Internationals 2023

After OG had already managed to win the most prestigious eSports event in the world in 2018 and 2019, it is now Team Spirit that managed to secure the title for the second time. In an extremely exciting tournament, in which TS won every contest, many big names such as Team Secret, Talon eSports or Evil Geniuses were eliminated early on in the knockout round.

Instead, teams like Virtus.pro, Azure Ray or BetBoom Team were convincing. Nevertheless, in the end it came to a showdown of two favorites with Team Spirit and Gaimin Gladiators. Both organizations have faced each other again and again throughout the year, of which, however, the encounter in the Upper Brackets of the Berlin Major might have been the most significant set-up in terms of pure ranking.

Pure dominance (at eye level)

While pundits viewed last weekend’s match-up in Seattle, USA as a duel of equals, a certain class difference stood out, especially in match one. In 34 minutes and a kill difference of 32:12, Team Spirit secured the first card. Rounds two and three, on the other hand, were extremely close, with Team Spirit coming out on top in both cases.

This means that the eSports organization, which originated in Russia but is now based in Serbia, has been crowned world champion for the second time, after Tundra Esports beat Team Secret 3-0 in the grand final last year.

However, there is one downer to all of this. Between 2014 and 2022, the prize money was above the ten-million mark, but this year it fell to just under 3.1 million. Nevertheless, Team Spirit secured an amount of 1.4 million with its triumph. Final opponent Gamin Gladiators can look forward to prize money of 380,000 US dollars.
