The International 2021 is getting closer. However, some teams are unhappy with their training rooms: too cramped and without proper facilities.

The Russian organisation Team Spirit shared a video on Twitter on Monday in which they presented their training room for the upcoming World Championship in Dota 2. The room was provided to them by tournament organisers Valve and PGL and is anything but adequate: Way too small, without working internet and even without toilet paper.

A tournament for 40 million dollars – toilet paper too expensive?

The International 2021, the prestigious Dota 2 tournament with the largest prize pool ever, is just around the corner. Starting on 7 October, the 18 best teams in the world will play for over 40 million US dollars in Bucharest, Romania.  The participants have arrived in advance in their assigned hotels, where they will not only play the practice matches, but also the group stage of the World Championship.

The video of Team Spirit shocked the fan community in the process. The room in which eight people have to stay is extremely small. The players cannot even put the backs of their chairs backwards and generally can hardly move. The kitchen area is barely usable due to the narrowness and there is not even toilet paper in the bathroom. In addition, the players had no internet connection even though the first training matches were coming up.

Actual world champions can hardly move

The manager of Team Spirit explained in the video that the rooms were divided among the teams according to DPC (Dota Pro Circuit) points and other teams were given better accommodations. Those teams that have scored few points in the past seasons have been put in small rooms.

Not even an exception was made for the reigning double world champions OG. The champions also scored few points and as their manager shared on Twitter on Monday, OG’s room seems similarly small. They also would not have been given an extra table or chair.

Other teams such as Virtus.pro who managed to score more DPC points subsequently shared their rooms which actually turn out to be far bigger.

Some fans sharply criticised the poor treatment of players and complained to Valve about the situation. However, some fans also argued that due to the change of venue from Sweden to Romania at short notice, there might not be suitable facilities available.
