Blizzard has big plans for War Plans. Season 16 brings targeted loot drops, more flexible rerolls, and powerful Horadric items. Players can test the changes on the PTR servers.
With the Lord of Hatred expansion, Blizzard introduced War Plans in Diablo 4 to provide you with a personalized endgame to-do list. The idea sounded enticing, but in practice, the system proved disappointing. Too little control over the tasks and severely limited rerolls forced you to repeatedly engage in unwelcome activities.
With Diablo 4: Season 16, which starts on December 1, 2026, the action RPG is targeting this area for improvement. The feature is undergoing a fundamental overhaul so that you can organize your playtime in a noticeably more focused way in the future.
More Control Over Quests and Loot
At the heart of the revamp is a new progression system called War Plan Tactics. By completing activities, you earn points toward a talent tree. You can allocate up to three points to specific content and just as many to the rewards of your choice.
The system tailors the roll to your preferences. Points earned in Hellfloods or Nightmare Dungeons unlock the chance to encounter Grand Hellfloods and Escalation Nightmare Dungeons. You also have a say in the loot: whether it’s weapons, armor, jewelry, materials like Obduzit, or ingredients for the Horadrim Cube, you can specifically control the loot chances. Blizzard also aims to eliminate the frustration of rerolling War Plans. A new currency called “Signs of Wisdom”—with a limit of 20—allows for significantly more attempts to exchange unsuitable plans.
Tyrael’s Blessing and Horadrim Treasures
Alongside the Tactics, the season introduces the “Tyrael’s Blessing” talent tree. It offers four paths, each of which allows you to activate four out of six nodes:

This allows you to reduce the Obolus cost at the Curiosity Merchant or add a new vendor of special goods (the “Mysterious Merchant”) on Torment difficulty. Alternatively, you can increase the yield of gold, experience, and materials, or reduce transmutation costs and unlock a recipe that lets you convert a Hardened affix on the Horadrim Cube into a Major affix.
Diablo 4 will also introduce “Horadrim Legendary Items” in Season 16. These pieces of gear synergize with Talisman spells, and accessories even count toward their set bonuses. This enables new character builds in the endgame.

The new features are now live on Diablo 4’s Public Test Realm (PTR) through November 3, 2026, before Season 16 officially launches on December 1.
By the way: No additional story expansions are planned for the hack-and-slash game after “Lord of Hatred.” However, a new class—the Amazon—will be released as DLC in the first half of 2027, and Diablo 5 is already on the horizon for 2028.
