The kick-off is done. The first two matchdays of the Mid Season Invitational have already been played. G2 Esports’ European representatives are holding their own so far. T1 and Royal Never Give Up have also started the tournament well.

The Mid Season Invitational, probably the most important tournament of the international League of Legends scene besides the Worlds, has been running since yesterday. A total of eleven teams from all corners of the world are taking part in the MSI. In addition to the title, a prize pool of a quarter of a million US dollars is at stake.

With only one team qualifying from each region, namely the respective winners of the Spring Split, the field is peppered with the best the national leagues have to offer. In the case of Europe, LEC representative G2 Esports is flying the flag for all EU fans.

The team around star midlaner Rasmus “caPs” Winther is one of the favourites along with Korean team T1 around legend Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and Royal Never Give Up from China.

G2, T1 & RNG still unbeaten

Both G2 and T1 and RNG are still undefeated at the top of their respective groups after the end of the second matchday.

LEC hopefuls G2 have so far won once against Oceanic representatives ORDER, and – to the delight of all EU fans – twice against North American champions Evil Geniuses. The starting position to reach the Rumble Stage, which begins after the group phase, as group leader is accordingly good.

Everything is also going according to plan so far at T1 and RNG.

The Korean top team won once each against Saigon Buffalo and Team Aze from Latin America. RNG won each against Istanbul Wildcats and PSG Talon, who have been disappointing so far. The Taiwanese team, which had reached the semi-finals in last year’s edition, also lost surprisingly badly to the Brazilian team RED Canids Kaluga. PSG did not manage a single kill in over 28 minutes of play.

The third matchday of the MSI starts on 12 May at 10:00 am German time with the match ORDER against Evil Genius. G2 Esports will play ORDER directly afterwards.
