Thanks to extensive research, one CS2 player has already found out the optimal settings for the lowest possible input lag.

It shouldn’t be too long until Counter-Strike 2 is released. The successor to what is probably the most popular multiplayer shooter in the world has already been in closed beta for several months. One of the participants has not only taken care of bombs and terrorists, but has also found out the optimal graphics settings along the way.

By optimal we don’t mean the best graphics or maximum FPS, but the lowest possible input lag This is the be-all and end-all for pros in competitive shooters and many options in CS2 seem to have a noticeable effect on input lag

These settings ensure minimal input lag

In the Reddit post below you can see an image with all the graphics settings tested. Between the lowest and highest presets there is a difference of 1.94 ms, which can make the difference between victory and defeat

Not surprisingly, Vertical Sync is even more crucial. If you switch on the coupling of the frame rate to the frequency of your display device, this gives you a whopping 15 ms of additional input lag – a no-go for professional gamers and those who want to be!

Edge smoothing via MSAA (+0.89 ms), global shadow quality (+0.30 ms) and ambient occlusion (+0.33 ms) also have a big impact. Other options such as shader detail, particle detail or HDR, on the other hand, have little impact.

How important is the lowest possible input lag in Counter-Strike and other multiplayer shooters to you? Is this an elementarily important point for you, which even decides whether you give the game a chance in the long term? Or do you not pay much attention to it because you just want to have uncomplicated fun? Feel free to write us your opinion in the comments!
