The world of Esports is transforming from a forced break to a colourful parade of tournaments. These events await fans in 2021 and 2022.

Fans of competitive gaming have experienced a dry spell of tournaments in recent years since the outbreak of the pandemic. However, more and more organisers are now slowly coming out of their forced hiatus and breathing life back into the competitive scene – under strict precautions. These are the mega-events you can look forward to this year and in the coming year.

2021: A fireworks display of prestigious events will soon be ignited

Whether you’re a shooter enthusiast or a MOBA expert, there’s a highlight for every fan to see in the coming weeks.

Dota 2 – The International 10: With a prize pool of over 40 million US dollars, this year’s World Championship in Dota 2 will once again make history. From 7 to 17 October, the 18 strongest teams in the world will battle it out in Bucharest, Romania. Be there when the lights come on again in the Twitch channel dota2ti The reigning double world champions OG will probably start the mission to defend their title without their star player Sébastien “Ceb” Debs, as he is recovering from an operation. All the more exciting, however, will be the event that the Dota scene has been eagerly awaiting for a long time.

League of Legends – 2021 World Championship: You’d rather watch another MOBA? No problem, the LoL Worlds is the biggest esport event in the world next to the TI. It starts on 5 October. The grand finale will finally take place on 6 November. For the 22 teams, it is not only about fame and honour, but also about the prize pool of at least 2,225,000 US dollars. That is at least the starting sum, which will then be increased by in-game sales at the Worlds. The venue is Reykjavík, Iceland.

You can find an overview of the groups here Small spoiler: The European Team Rogue is waiting for the group of death with the reigning world champions DWG KIA and the champion of 2019, FunPlus Phoenix. CS:GO – PGL Major Stockholm 2021: If you’re more interested in precision shooter action instead, you can look forward to the upcoming CS:GO Major. From 26 October to 7 November, 24 teams will meet in Stockholm, Sweden. The prize pool of 2 million US dollars is in addition to the title as the best team in the world.

2022: Even more highlights are being prepared

The coming year in esports should be a lot safer, as developers and organisers are now better able to adjust to the circumstances of the pandemic. If the situation remains reasonably stable and controllable for the organisers, the aforementioned top tournaments are again on the cards for 2022. This means that teams will once again have to earn their points for participation in the World Championships in the biggest leagues of the titles.

Dota 2 – DPC: There is still no official confirmation from Valve for the upcoming DPC format (Dota Pro Circuit). However, fans found hints in the game’s data that the next circuit will be split into three seasons with three phases each for the regional leagues and three majors as the climax.

League of Legends – LEC: Riot Games will again organise the well-known regional leagues in 2022. Of course, the LEC is of particular interest to European fans. There will be quite a stir in the coming year: The Swiss-based team BDS will take over the slot from Schalke 04 Esports for the first time. In addition, top team G2 Esports is rumoured to be parting ways with Martin “Rekkles” Larsson.

CS:GO – ESL Pro Tour: Organiser ESL has already confirmed the plans for the next Pro Tour. A large number of tournaments are waiting. There will be numerous event stops. Among them are seven ESL Pro Tour Masters, four ESL Pro Tour Challenger Events (formerly DreamHack Open), four ESL Pro Tour Challenger Leagues (formerly ESEA Premier) and more than ten further national tournaments.

2022 Asian Games: Esports gets a touch of the Olympics! At least these thoughts are held high in Asia. In 2022, professional players will be able to win an Olympic medal in their discipline for the first time at the Asian Games. Eight titles will be played: Arena of Valor, Dota 2, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, EA Sports FIFA, Hearthstone, League of Legends, PUBG Mobile, and Street Fighter V.
