Don’t know whether you should get Battlefield 2042 or Call of Duty: Vanguard? We’ll show you which game suits you better!

Our article This is why Battlefield is better than Call of Duty is one of a series of articles in which we want to help you find the right game. If you can’t decide yet this year whether to buy CoD: Vanguard or Battlefield 2042, you should definitely take a look here.

In this article we focus on the merits of EA’s shooter Battlefield 2042.

Fun ☻ Realism

Battlefield is a game that clearly errs on the side of fun. This can be well illustrated by the example of the skill move “Rendezook”. In this incredible trick shot, the player gets out of the airborne plane to shoot down an enemy plane in free fall with the bazooka and then gets back into his plane.

Best take a look for yourself:

This move would of course be absolutely impossible in reality, no question about it! Nevertheless, it was never patched out of the game, but even received an accolade from the developer, as it was integrated into the trailer of the latest instalment Battlefield 2042.

Another example of why Battlefield focuses more on the fun factor is the attachment of C4/C5 bombs to the bonnets of vehicles. Once they are attached, you find a suitable target and race towards it, only to get out at the right moment and blow up the explosive charge along with your own vehicle.

This trick was taken out of the game in some parts, so that the staple bombs did not stick to own vehicles. Nevertheless, this feature made a comeback in Battlefield 2042 because the community had lots of fun with it.

Big, Bigger, Battlefield

Compared to Call of Duty, Battlefield, as its name suggests, has always been a true battlefield. And that on land, sea and in the air!

It’s not just about taking out enemies with weapons, but also controlling vehicles, planes, cannons and many other tools of war. However, this requires a lot of space, so the maps in Battlefield are extremely large.

In Battlefield 2042, the maps were designed to send 128 simultaneous players to war. This may be a bit overwhelming for some, but for others it is a lot of fun.

Conclusion

Although there is no single player mode in the new Battlefield 2042, we find the new features great. Be it the wingsuit, the grappling hook or the autonomous combat robot (Ranger).

If you want to enjoy a bit of action in the evening without getting lost in 6 vs. 6 modes like in Call of Duty, you’re in good hands here.

However, there are a lot of negative reviews on various platforms, and rightly so. This is largely due to the catastrophic server and performance problems. If you don’t own a high-end computer or even play on a PS4/XBOX One, you can expect low FPS, which can get on your last nerve in no time. There are also a lot of bugs reminiscent of the start of Cyberpunk 2077 that you have to overlook for the fun of the game.

In the end, everyone has to know for themselves which game they like more. In my opinion, Battlefield does not deserve such a low score as on Steam and should receive updates in the next few months to remove the game’s teething problems. Then all players should be able to enjoy it.

That’s why Call of Duty is better than Battlefield

Simpler Principle

Call of Duty is best known for its fast-paced, action-packed multiplayer. Since Modern Warfare 2 at the latest, everyone knows what the series is all about: short multiplayer rounds in which the main focus is on shooting.

The principle is so simple that everyone can jump right in. The latest offshoot, Call of Duty: Vanguard, also sticks to the tried and tested formula. So that the same game does not come out every year, a few changes are made for each title. Vanguard wants to devote itself above all to fun and therefore overlooks historical accuracy to some extent. So the game presents you with battles in places that are not normally shown in a WWII shooter.

The maps look really good and even offer space for more players thanks to the tempo setting. The classic 6v6 mode, for example, can be increased to 24v24 thanks to the tempo setting, which makes the shooter even more chaotic. The game speed and weapon feeling is well received by the fans, so that one can look forward to a good CoD this year as well.

Campaigns to remember

Another strength of Call of Duty are the campaigns. Even if they are often criticised, they remain in the memory of many players. They don’t always have to be shock scandals like the airport scene from MW2 or the torture scene from Black Ops.

Moments like the Press F to pay respect meme have become internet cult and scenes from other CoD parts are also quoted again and again. In the case of Vanguard, a lot was said about the campaign before the release, so perhaps a scene or two will be remembered here too.

Warzone

With the Battle Royale spin-off Warzone, the Call of Duty series has gained a lot of popularity and a lot of new players. The Free-2-Play offshoot combines several Call of Duty parts such as Modern Warfare (2019) and Black Ops:
Cold War.

The multiplayer progress is transferred here, which is why Call of Duty: Vanguard is particularly worthwhile for Warzone players. If you’re tired of the stressful Battle Royale, you can level up your weapons and master challenges here in peace. On top of that, Warzone gets a new map because of Vanguard and also adopts the mechanics of the new offshoot.

Conclusion

In the end, it’s up to you whether you prefer the big battles of Battlefield 2042 or the short rounds of Call of Duty: Vanguard. For those who play Warzone and generally don’t like huge maps, we can advise CoD.

Many fans of the series find Vanguard surprisingly good after being rather disappointed by the last part. With regular updates, there is also plenty of variety until the next part comes out.
