Call of Duty is wiping your progress in DMZ mode for Season 2. The wipe is an unpleasant surprise for many players

The message is hiding in a long blog post for Season 2 of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2: Soon your progress in DMZ mode will be wiped. There was never any talk of such wipes before – and this is now pissing off many players. Many already know the ritual from Escape From Tarkov, but no one knew that DMZ is also borrowing this from the great Extraction role model.

We have all the important info for you: What exactly is being deleted? When is the progress gone? And what happens to the weapons and blueprints you”ve won?

This is what you need to know about the DMZ wipe

What will you lose? All keys, Contraband weapons and your faction mission progress will be deleted. You will need to replenish your DMZ inventory. According to the insider CharlieIntel, you will also lose the possibly unlocked second slot for an insured weapon and will have to earn this slot again. At least this should be faster than in Season 1.

When is the Wipe coming? At Season 2, your progress will be reset, so February 15, 2023.

Is there a wipe every season? Nothing is officially known about this yet. But of course it stands to reason that DMZ will bring new content with every season update and flatten your progress beforehand so that everyone starts from scratch again and newcomers also have a chance.

Are my weapons and blueprints safe? The weapons and blueprints you have unlocked via DMZ will stay with you

(Weapons you use to escape alive in DMZ will also be unlocked for you in Warzone 2 and multiplayer.)

Players” reactions

Many DMZ players are expressing frustration and surprise at the announcement, which came so close to the season change. Even CoD experts like (ModernWarzone) express incomprehension on Twitter:

Wipes are okay if they are necessary like in Escape From Tarkov. This one seems like a wipe on principle

In Escape From Tarkov, for example, there is an in-game economy that is reset to zero from time to time. Frequent players also collect a powerful arsenal at some point, which gives them great advantages over newcomers – but something like this is missing in DMZ. There are also no special unlockable skills that make experienced players superior, and the second insured weapon slot is more convenient than game-changing.

The Streamer (Marksman) earns much approval with this comment on Twitter:

Yeah, I don”t know why they do that. They should keep expanding it and not reset all my mission ranks. Doesn”t really make sense to me, but I”m not going to play all the missions again, so I”m probably through with DMZ.

With Season 2 comes not only the reset, but also new content for DMZ, the multiplayer, and Warzone 2. And the changes for the Battle Royale sound like the opposite of the wipe, namely fulfilling almost every major fan request:

What do you think of the upcoming reset? Do such wipes frustrate you or are you happy about a fresh start to the new season?
