Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will be released in October 2022. Find out which maps you will be able to play in multiplayer and what makes them special.

In a few days Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will be released. While you will have to wait until the release on 28 October to start playing the multiplayer, pre-orderers can at least play the campaign in advance!

Or you can already find out about the maps that will be playable at launch, which we know a little more about since the beta. Here we list all confirmed maps for the multiplayer of Modern Warfare 2, and also go into leaks and rumours about further maps. You can navigate to specific maps right here:

Classic 6v6 maps:

  • Breenbergh Hotel
  • Farm 18
  • Grand Prix
  • Mercado las Almas
  • Valderas Museum

Big Maps for Ground War and Invasion:

  • Sa”id
  • Santa Sena
  • Sariff Bay

Classic 6v6 maps

On the smaller 6v6 coremaps, modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hostage Rescue or Search & Destroy are played. Here there are always pure infantry battles in a small space. The maps are also said to rely on a 3-lane layout with clearly defined running paths. These maps are already confirmed:

Breenbergh Hotel

(Playable from: Release – Setting: Amsterdam, Netherlands – Player count: 6 vs 6)

Breenbergh Hotel has you fighting in a large hotel complex in Amsterdam and its grounds. Narrow corridors and convoluted, cluttered rooms are broken up by larger courtyards. While there is plenty of cover, you must expect enemies from all directions, who will also fire at you from higher or lower positions.

Farm 18

(Playable from: Release – Setting: Kastovia (fictional Eastern European state), exact location secret – Player count: 6 vs 6)

Farm 18 is a seemingly abandoned cement factory that serves as a secret training facility for paramilitary groups who use it to prepare for battles in urban areas. There are many open spaces here that offer little cover against air strikes and missiles. You must also be prepared for attacks from above at all times.

Grand Prix

(Playable from: Release – Setting: Marina Bay Grand Prix, Singapore – Players: 6 vs 6)

Grand Prix sends you to a race track and its surroundings. It seems unlikely that you”ll be jumping between racing cars, but the map has already been well received in the first games. A small teaser already shows some areas of the map, but we can”t show you a map layout yet.

This is also because Activision have since deleted all mentions of the map from their social media accounts, as Charlie Intel noted on Twitter. What this means for the release of the map is still unclear. In the worst case Grand Prix has been removed from the game again, actually the map should already be available in the beta.

Valdera”s Museum

(Playable from: Release – Setting: Ronda, Spain – Players: 6 vs 6)

A modern Spanish art museum becomes the victim of combat on the Valderas Museum map. Clear lines of sight here provide good opportunities for snipers, but indoors, it”s mostly hand-to-hand combat.

Mercado las Almas

(Playable from: Release – Setting: Las Almas, Mexico – Players: 6 vs 6)

A pretty Mexican market also becomes a battlefield in Modern Warfare 2. Mercado las Almas is a very small map that makes less use of predefined lanes. Instead, you will have to expect constant combat in all main areas here.

Big Maps for Ground War and Invasion

These much larger maps will be used in the Invasion mode, for example, which resembles a team deathmatch with a much larger map, vehicles and additional AI soldiers. They are also used for the new Ground War mode, in which you have to hold the larger part of several conquest points for your team. Vehicles are also used here.

Sa”id

(Playable from: Release – Setting: Sa”id, Republic of Adal (fictional Middle Eastern state) – Player count: 32 vs 32)

Sa”id is the name of a once bustling city whose residential areas you are now fighting over. These are found in the centre of the map and are surrounded by a shopping centre, warehouses and harbour buildings. Several particularly high buildings offer excellent opportunities for snipers. The many walkable roofs also allow you to move around the map almost without touching the ground.

You can see how the map plays in our 15-minute gameplay video from the Ground War conquest mode above.

Santa Seña

(Playable from: Release – Setting: Santa Seña, Mexico – Players: 32 vs 32)

On the map Santa Seña you fight for a small town with a checkpoint at the border between the USA and Mexico. You can succeed with many play styles on this varied map.

Sariff Bay

(Playable from: Release – Setting: Sariff Bay, Republic of Adal (fictional Middle Eastern state) – Player count: 32 vs 32)

An old fishing port in the Middle East becomes the scene of major battles in Modern Warfare 2. In addition to industrial buildings and a densely built-up inner city area, barren hills and an island with a large lighthouse also await you. Through the harbour basin you can almost move from one end of the map to the other by boat.

What else is there?

It is already known that two of the announced maps for Groundwar and Invasion are also sections of the large warzone map Al Mazrah. So it is quite possible that other parts of Al Mazrah will also be used as maps for the multiplayer of Modern Warfare 2.

Whether all of the locations listed in the image below will become multiplayer maps seems questionable. But at least some areas might be related to past leaks&nbsp:

  • Oil Field is supposed to be a 6v6 map with an oil field, possibly located in the area of Rohan Oil northwest of Al Mazrah.
  • Also Saba should become a smaller map in an Arabic-looking city. Maybe this one goes to the big city of Al Mazrah in the northeast.
  • Hydro is to be a ground war map with a deep river running through it. This most likely corresponds to the Hydroelectric region in the centre of Al Mazrah.
  • Sira is also to become a large map that looks like a research or airport complex. Perhaps this will be the airport in the south of Al Mazrah.

What maps would you like to see in Modern Warfare 2? Are you hoping for the return of some classics or are you more excited about new maps? Feel free to post your opinion in the comments
