Battlefield 6 also got a new map for the start of Season 1. However, it has not been well received by players.
Just a few weeks after the launch of Battlefield 6, Multiplayer Shooter and EA have now kicked off the first season for their new multiplayer shooter. In addition to new weapons and the new Strikepoint game mode, the season launch also includes a new map – and it’s clearly not going down well with the community.
On Reddit and in the comment sections online, criticism of the map Blackwell Fields
is already much harsher than it was for the shooter’s original nine launch maps. Let’s take a look at the points of criticism.
The worst BF map ever
Things are currently heating up in the Battlefield subreddit: Under a post with the telling title The worst BF map ever
by user neda6117, players are voicing their criticism of the new map, Blackwell Fields.
Most players agree that the main problem is the unbroken lines of sight on the map. Blackwell Fields, which is visually based on an American oil field, is also too small; jets and helicopters have far too little room to maneuver.
This means that from the moment you spawn or take off, you are virtually defenseless against enemy snipers and anti-aircraft tanks.
This is what user OdahP in another thread about the map:
When you spawn in your jet, you’re already being targeted by lasers, and if you manage to fly, you can only fly about 100 meters outside the map. That’s crazy. I don’t understand why they want to implement jets, but then make the maps and the flyable area so small that you can’t even dodge targets.
Another user is even harsher in their assessment: I don’t understand how you can mess up a map so badly. It’s almost funny: most complaints are directed at the maps, and then they top it all off with a crappy map like this.
Man, this is the worst map in BF history… I can’t even…

Battlefield
Maps like in CoD
But there is another point of criticism that many players cannot get past: overall, the maps in Battlefield 6 feel too much like the small close-quarters combat maps in Call of Duty. Blackwell, with its limited size and clearly defined movement paths for players (which have been an important design element in CoD for years), follows exactly the same pattern.
For Battlefield veterans, this is a clear indication that DICE has forgotten its own target audience and does not understand what made Battlefield great in the first place. In this context, there is also criticism of the unnatural
boundaries of the map, i.e., areas at the edge of the map that players believe should be accessible but are instead blocked off.
The desire for larger and more open maps has been with Battlefield 6 since the beta. However, there is also positive feedback at the start of Season 1: the new map for the simultaneously launched Battle Royale spin-off Battlefield Redsec is mostly well received by the community. In addition, DICE has also nerfed the conspicuous green Monster Energy skin and reduced the glare effect when looking outside.
