GSC Game World is expanding the survival shooter with flexible NPC rendering, squad leader escorts through the Zone, and adjusted ballistics for long-range combat.

Update 2.1 for GSC Game World’s Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is now available for download on PC and consoles.

The new version introduces two major features that the community has long been requesting. After installation, you can manually adjust the rendering distance of A-Life NPCs to suit your preferences and hardware. This means you decide for yourself from what distance the Zone’s inhabitants appear.

You’ll find several presets for this in the settings. The developers recommend sticking with the default preset to ensure the best balance of performance, stability, and immersion.

Hardware Demands and Weapon Ballistics: What Higher A-Life View Distances Mean

If you increase the view distance, it can affect your system’s performance and stability. However, if you select the “Dynamic” preset, the game automatically adjusts the display radius to match the hardware power of your PC or console.

In addition, the developers have reworked the game balance so that long-range firefights feel more natural. Depending on the preset you choose, you’ll now hear gunfire from much greater distances. The developers have also adjusted the weapon ballistics accordingly.

Important to know: This setting does not apply to scripted quest NPCs, as they are considered a separate system.

Guided Tours Through the Zone: How Fast Travel with Squad Leaders Works

The second major new feature is fast travel with squad leaders. With Update 2.1, your compass now marks squad leaders. You can ask these squad leaders to guide you to nearby destinations along their route. Just talk to them and see where the journey might take you.

However, this service isn’t cheap, and you’ll have to carry your own backpack during the trip—so make sure you aren’t overloaded. Also, only nearby, previously explored locations are available for selection.

The update is rounded out by numerous bug fixes and visual improvements.
