In the latest developer update, Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog discuss the supernatural turning point in the action-adventure game.
After giving us a look at the Egypt level in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics are following up this week with the creatures that inhabit it.
In the latest video, the developers focus on some of the enemies Lara Croft will encounter on her journey to the land of the pharaohs, particularly the cat mummy.

“The first encounter with the mummy happens when the sarcophagus falls and she jumps out,” explains Raul Siqueira, Game Director at Crystal Dynamics. “It’s meant to be a slap in the face: ‘Look how cool this game is.’”
“Egypt is the turning point. In Egypt, we’re saying, ‘The supernatural is part of this game, and we want to celebrate it.’ We don’t want to hold back on that. We’re showing flying creatures, we’re showing cat mummies, and we’re showing all kinds of cool stuff you’ll want to fight.”
These new clips are also meant to highlight just how much work Flying Wild Hog has put into the animations and design.
Not just a simple cover-based shooter: Magical abilities force Lara out of cover
“The mummies have magical abilities that you’ll come to love and/or hate depending on your playstyle,” Siqueira continues. “This isn’t a cover-based shooter where you try to stay in one spot and just unload your weapons. You have to use your arsenal and the environment to your advantage, and the cat mummy forces you to do just that.”
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches on February 12, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2.
