Season 5 of Blizzard’s hero shooter Overwatch introduces a new vampire hero named Doctrine.
Game Director Aaron Keller introduced the upcoming support hero to the audience with an animated trailer on stage at BlizzCon. In the trailer, the new character joins the arch-villain Doomfist and his henchmen.
With a scepter, Doctrine can apparently both heal and deal significant damage. “Shrouded in darkness,” he moves across the game’s maps and uses drones to buff his allies. He also employs infusions and bat drones.
Hero Trial Launched: Release Date and Reworks for Sombra & Roadhog
Not only can you try out Doctrine in person at BlizzCon, but you can also do so at home as part of a “Hero Trial” event running through September 14, 2026. Officially, the new character will make her debut at the start of Season 5 on October 6, 2026.
Meanwhile, Sombra and Roadhog are getting major reworks in the new season, which will, among other things, transform Sombra from a damage-dealing hero into a support hero. Roadhog is also set to become a bit more manageable.
Watchpoint: Grímsvötn: New Escort Map Takes You to Iceland
You can also look forward to the new escort map, Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, which takes you to a remote Icelandic prison where you’ll free Doctrine from Doomfist, setting the stage for the final chapter of the story.
