A modder has now made DLSS 5 available on AMD graphics cards as well, but not without a catch.
Nvidia likely envisioned the release of the major “graphics revolution” DLSS 5 quite differently. The new generation of upscaling technology was leaked in advance and extensively tested in games and with hardware not actually intended for it.
Now, a modder has even crossed the line between the graphics card giants and shown that DLSS 5 can also work on AMD GPUs.
DLSS 5 also runs on Radeon GPUs, but only poorly
What happened? If you missed the buzz at the end of last week, here’s a quick summary:
- DLSS 5 is said to be the “biggest leap in graphics since path tracing” and was released on September 4, 2026, alongside the basketball simulation NBA 2K27.
- However, the AI upscaler had already been discovered in the early access data for the same sports game and was subsequently tested by players in dozens of games.
- Older hardware was also targeted, and Nvidia has since even confirmed that DLSS 5 is not intended to remain an “RTX 50” exclusive.
Now also available from AMD: As reported by, among others,VideoCardzreports, a modder has now also managed to get the tool running on AMD’s Radeon graphics cards.
In the “DLSS-NR on AMD” project onGitHub, the source code has not yet been released.
When you run the setup file, Windows Defender also pops up with a warning. So for now, it’s best to avoid using it if you want to play it safe.
Just like the mod implementations for the “RTX 40” and “RTX 30” series, as well as the official implementation in NBA 2K27, the AMD version also causes significant performance losses.
Development is moving rapidly here, and over the weekend, several updates helped “recover” additional frames. So far, however, the project is little more than a use case.
It does, however, show that NVIDIA’s new technology isn’t necessarily limited to NVIDIA graphics cards. The coming months are sure to be very interesting with regard to DLSS 5.
