The PS5 horror game is set to release in January 2027. Instead of snow, this time the setting is a tropical island, and the team behind Dispatch is helping with the story.
During the latest State of Play, Sony announced the release date for Until Dawn 2. The horror sequel will launch on January 28, 2027, for PlayStation 5. At the same time, there’s some interesting news about the development: Firesprite is getting story support from AdHoc Studio, the team behind Dispatch.
Until Dawn 2 bids farewell to the snow-covered Blackwood Mountain of the first game and sends you instead to the remote island of Akishima in the South Pacific. The story centers on the crew of the paranormal channel Dead True, which has so far entertained its audience primarily with staged ghost stories.
Just as the team lands a contract with a major TV network and their big break draws near, they encounter a supernatural phenomenon that wasn’t staged for the camera.
The new trailer begins in a familiar setting. Dead True is filming an episode at the Blackwood Sanatorium, investigating the events that took place there twelve years earlier. Intern Izzy, played by Sarah Catherine Hook, stumbles upon something that thoroughly disrupts the group’s future plans.
Later, at HorrorCon in Sydney, the ghost hunters meet Yoona, played by Gia Kim. She has survived a supernatural attack and warns the group about Akishima. Of course, Dead True heads there anyway. Otherwise, Until Dawn 2 would probably be a pretty short game.
The studio behind Dispatch is collaborating on the story
Until Dawn 2 is being developed by Sony’s Liverpool-based studio Firesprite, which is taking over from Supermassive Games. For the story, however, the team has enlisted some prominent support: AdHoc Studio, which released *Dispatch* in 2025—one of the most striking narrative games of the year—is collaborating on the story.
This fits *Until Dawn* quite well. Decisions, relationships, and their consequences are set to play a central role once again in the second installment. According to Firesprite, even minor interactions can have a noticeable impact on the game’s progression.
The trailer shows two such decisions. Owen, played by *Stranger Things* actor Dacre Montgomery, can follow a signal to search for his missing friend Nate or take a different path across a rickety bridge that may hold important clues. Mina, on the other hand, must decide for a live broadcast whether to sacrifice a rooster or use her own blood for a ritual.
Peter Stormare Returns as Dr. Hill
However, the cast isn’t entirely new. Peter Stormare returns as Dr. Hill, whom you already know from the first Until Dawn. Sony hasn’t yet revealed what role the psychiatrist will play this time or how Firesprite explains his return within the story.
Pre-orders for Until Dawn 2 begin on September 10, 2026. Anyone who pre-orders the Standard Edition or the Digital Deluxe Edition will receive several Dr. Hill-themed extras. These include a classic Until Dawn outfit, an Akishima Island outfit, and Dr. Hill bobbleheads.
The Deluxe Edition lets you relive every death
In addition to the Standard Edition, a Digital Deluxe Edition will be released on January 28. It includes the Y2K Neon Vibes Pack with alternative neon outfits for all eight members of Dead True.
The so-called “Diorama of Death” sounds much more interesting. In it, you can revisit the characters’ various death scenes from different angles and try to unlock all the scenes. For those who mainly want to figure out in *Until Dawn* just how creatively the entire cast can be sent to the afterlife, this at least provides a convenient overview of your own achievements.
Until Dawn 2 will be released on January 28, 2027, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
