The South Korean developer has unveiled a major roadmap for the action-adventure game. In addition to DLCs and a Switch 2 version, sequels are also on the table.

Pearl Abyss has commented on its future plans for the successful open-world action-adventure Crimson Desert—which also include testing multiplayer modes.

In its latest financial report, the South Korean studio presented a detailed roadmap for the game. For example, a DLC is currently in development and is scheduled to be released later this year—the announcement is planned for the third quarter.

“Please note that we haven’t yet made a final internal decision on how many DLCs will be released in total or how frequently we’ll release them,” the studio emphasizes. “Our main focus right now is entirely on delivering outstanding quality with the first DLC.”

Platform Expansion and Nintendo Switch 2

Pearl Abyss is also considering a platform expansion, specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2, for which the version has “achieved basic playability.” The studio is continuing to review technical aspects, optimize performance, and ensure that the game meets quality standards. The target release window is the first half of next year.

“We are doing everything we can to release Crimson Desert on as many platforms as possible,” says Pearl Abyss. “However, such a platform expansion is not a simple port. We must ensure that we fully preserve the graphics, the intense combat, and the seamless open-world experience on every device.”

Technical Testing of Multiplayer Modes

The team is also interested in a multiplayer mode, though they are still in the experimental phase: “Given Crimson Desert’s dynamic action combat and vast open-world structure, we see enormous potential for multiplayer modes. However, integrating a multiplayer feature is far more complex than simply patching in a new game mode. It’s a massive technical undertaking. We need to thoroughly test the server architecture, game balancing, cross-platform stability, and future live service models.”

“That’s why we’re currently conducting extensive testing—both on a technical and gameplay level. Our overarching goal is to keep you engaged with the Crimson Desert IP for the long term. As soon as our plans become more concrete, we’ll share further details with you via our official channels.”

It remains to be seen whether this will actually result in multiplayer modes for the game or if they’ll end up creating a standalone spin-off. Meanwhile, a mobile version of the title has been ruled out.

Long-Term Franchise Plans and Possible Sequels

Looking ahead, however, the team has big plans for the brand: “We’re therefore keeping our options open—including expansions, additional platform ports, and official sequels. Our immediate development priority, however, is clearly focused on the DLCs for Crimson Desert and our next, upcoming projects.”

“As for the broader Crimson Desert franchise, we’ll evaluate future development opportunities in due course. We’ll do this while continuing to support the main game and the DLCs. In doing so, we’ll take your feedback, market conditions, and, of course, commercial performance into account.”
