The crazy climbing spectacle Peak is bidding farewell with one final major content update. And the community is celebrating the finale with a massive wave of success on Steam.

Sometimes you don’t need a multi-million budget or sophisticated marketing campaigns to set off a massive avalanche on Steam. Proof of this came in the summer of 2025 with the wacky climbing adventurePeak, which came out of nowhereto become an absolute surprise hit with 170,000 concurrent players

In Peak, you play as a group of lost scouts climbing a dangerous mountain whose layout changes every 24 hours. You must use tools, can help (or eat) each other, and, of course, try to reach the summit alive (and ideally, with everyone still in the group!).

Now the developers are unveiling the final chapter of this mountaineering hit: With“THE FINAL ASCENT” (Version 2.0.a), the game received its final major content update—and player numbers immediately began climbing again.

New Biomes, Ascent 8, and a Jetpack—Here’s What’s in the Update

The worlds of Peak have been expanded to includetwo brand-new biomes.& GloomandThe Citadelwill now be added to the rotation of existing areasCalderaand The Kiln. Gloom is a gloomy, fog-shrouded swamp landscape, while The Citadel features a gigantic tower just waiting to be climbed.

In addition, mysterious statuesare now appearing on the islands, though their function or significance has not yet been conclusively determined. They must have something to do with the new mystery that, according to the developers, can now be discovered. I guess I’ll have to go on an investigative climbing expedition myself this weekend.

With thenew difficulty level, Ascent 8there’s now an even greater challenge for the daredevil climbers among you. But here, too, the developers don’t want to go into detail and would rather have you jump right in.

Finally, you can now use a bunch of new gear and crazy items, including a jetpack (every game is better with a jetpack) or the clown’s gear, complete with a lollipop cannon.

Can Peak Break Its Own Record?

The latest numbers on Steam show that the final update is going over well with fans. According to SteamDBPeak is already recording over 120,000 concurrent players, and those numbers are likely to climb even higher over the weekend. It remains to be seen whether it will reach the peak of 170,000 players.

If you’ve missed out on Peak so far, now is the perfect opportunity to give this climbing game a try. Peak is currently available with a whopping 50 percent discounton Steamand costsless than 4 euros. By the way, that’s the lowest price it’s ever been on Steam, so this co-op game has never been cheaper (in case you still need to convince that one friend to buy it, you know who I mean).

How about you: Have you played Peak 2025 yourself, or have you just watched the climbing spectacle from the sidelines? And can you understand the appeal of the chaotic co-op?

Feel free to let us know in the comments. I’m going to go dig out my dusty hiking boots—a mountain peak is waiting to be conquered!
