Sam Neill filmed one last movie before his death: He will appear in *The Legend of Zelda* in 2027

Sam Neill passed away on July 13, 2026, at the age of 78. Before his death, however, he was able to complete a role in the *Zelda* movie.

But right up until shortly before his death, the New Zealand actor—who passed away at the age of 78—was still quite active: In fact, Neill appeared in three films that will be released posthumously in the coming months.

The Legend of Zelda is likely to be Sam Neill’s final feature film

This is according to a report byDeadline, which explicitly refers to the Zelda film directed by Wes Ball (Planet of the Apes: New Kingdom, Maze Runner). The adaptation of Nintendo’s legendary video game series is set to hit theaters onApril 30, 2027and this is likely to be Sam Neill’s final appearance.

At this time, however, we do not know what role Neill will play in the Zelda movie. But there’s already speculation that hecould play the King of Hyrule. Fans (for example, onReddit) think this is at least quite likely.

By the way, this isn’t the only casting news regarding The Legend of Zelda. The cast, which includes Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (House of the Dragon) as Link and Bo Bragason (Three Girls) as Princess Zelda, has been expanded to include the following actors and actresses:

• Uli Latukefu (Black Adam) as Ganondorf
• Dichen Lachman (Severance) as Impa
• Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale) in a role yet to be announced, but possibly as the Queen of Hyrule

Filming for *The Legend of Zelda* has already wrapped and took place in New Zealand. The movie was originally scheduled for release on May 7, 2027, but was then pushed back to April 30 of next year.
