Patch 1.13 for Crimson Desert once again fulfills some fan requests and makes Damiane and Oongka even more useful. On the PS5, however, the update has some unwanted side effects.

With what is now the thirteenth major update, the developers of Crimson Desert are once again delivering plenty of new content for the open-world game. Patch 1.13 fulfills quite a few fan requests, but this time there are also some major issues. On the PS5, performance apparently drops off regularly with the latest version of the game.

What’s New in Patch 1.13?

First, let’s look at the content of the latest update for Crimson Desert. You can find the developer’s full patch notes on page 2, but we’ll briefly summarize the most important details about Patch 1.13. Highlights includenumerous new armor sets and the ability to dye weapons. Players had been requesting the latter feature time and again.

  • Oongka and Damiane can now enter the Abyss.
  • Kliff and Oongka receive 39 new armor pieces, while Damiane gets 8 new sets of armor. The new gear can be obtained through shops, quests, and boss fights.
  • Oongka can now wear most of the armor that Kliff uses.
  • Damiane and Oongka can now wear Kuku armor.
  • Most weapons can now be dyed.
  • Pets now rest alongside Kliff.
  • The abilityCrow’s Sky Kickis no longer considered a crime.

Although the patch notes include plenty of bug fixes and technical improvements, the update seems to be having the opposite effect for players on PlayStation. They report on Reddit, for example,of
significantly worse performance, stuttering, and drastic frame rate drops.

However, there is now some good news for players experiencing these issues. Pearl Abyss is currently addressing the problemon its own website, promising to investigate it. So it’s quite possible that a hotfix addressing the performance issues will be released in the coming days. This has happened with previous updates as well.

It will likely still take some time before all players can enjoy the new features of Patch 1.13. New Features

[Oongka/Damiane] The Abyss is now accessible. Accordingly, the locations of some boss memory fragments where you can seek revenge have been changed. (To avoid spoilers, you can find the corresponding changes to this content in the dropdown menu below.)

  • When you rest in bed, summoned companions will now rest alongside you.
  • Under “Settings” “Miscellaneous” “Gameplay,” the option “Hide Mini-map and Status” has been added, allowing you to hide the mini-map and the status HUD interface.
  • The “Hunter’s Amulet” item has been added. When equipped, companions will bring back loot and collectibles that match their respective abilities.
  • [Cliff/Oongka] 39 new pieces of gear have been added, including boss gear.

      • 5 Knight of Slaughter gear pieces

  • You can obtain new equipment through quests, challenges, the shop, and other content.
  • [Oongka] Most of the outfits that Kliff can wear are now available.
  • [Damiane] The following boss gear can now be worn.

    • 5 pieces of the Protector of Odeck’s gear
    • 3 pieces of the Dark Archer’s gear
    • 1 piece of the Masked Liberator’s gear

  • [Damiane/Oongka] Kuku gear can now be worn.

    • Lightning-Resistant Kuku Armor
    • Heat-Resistant Kuku Armor
    • Cold-Resistant Kuku Armor
    • Kuku Windstep Boots
    • Rishi’s Kuku Boots
    • Marni’s Kuku Laser Helmet

  • Blueprints for four rugs have been added.

    • The blueprints for rugs can be purchased in the shop.

  • Special attacks have been added for enemies from the “Flame Knights,” “Wyvern Flame,” “Wild Fangs,” and “Goldscale Bandits” factions.
  • Blueprints for the “Lightning Strike Plate Armor,” “Ash Flame Plate Armor,” and “Frost Curse Plate Armor” have been added.

  • Some camouflages that previously could not be dyed can now be dyed.
  • Most primary and secondary weapons can now be dyed.
  • The “Clockwork Eagle” and the “Phoenix” can now equip the “Amulet of Bravery.”
  • When collecting a firefly colony, you can now obtain up to 3 fireflies.
  • [Oongka] Puzzles can now also be solved using “Scatter Shot.”
  • Fixed an issue where the auto-targeted target would switch to a different quest under certain circumstances.
  • An issue has been fixed where rowboats would briefly sink into the water while being steered.
  • A bug has been fixed where the car would disappear if it was destroyed during the “A Bag of Pepper” quest.
  • A bug has been fixed that caused Moren to disappear at the start of the battle after pursuing Moren, the leader of the Mistwood Hunters.
  • A bug has been fixed that allowed players to commit crimes using tools while playing a memory fragment without receiving a fine.
  • The teleportation device at the Gate of Technology can now be used even if you are not equipped with any visions.
  • An issue was resolved where all buyback items would disappear if you sold a piece of furniture at a furniture store that was not listed there and then bought it back.
  • Fixed an issue where Duane could not ride a mount during the “Archery” quest.
  • Fixed an issue where the contribution increased unusually high in certain situations.
  • The Blood Bandits’ Alchemy Bomb Backpack now loses durability every time a bomb is summoned.
  • Fixed an issue where a previous side quest would not be completed if you rescued the injured soldier first during the “Touch of Redemption” quest.
  • Fixed an issue where certain attacks from “Antumbra’s Spear” were triggered in unusual locations.

Controls

  • Using the Power of the Axiom during a soft lock-on now applies it to the target immediately.
  • [Damiane] Fixed an issue where equipping a lance did not trigger the “Skill” upgrade for the “Sword of Judgment” ability.
  • [Oongka] Fixed an issue where pressing the Off button while reading memories caused Oongka to enter vertical flight.
  • Fixed an issue where the “Counter Stance” ability could be used while a banner lance was equipped.
  • Fixed an issue where the character could be controlled during character switching while the game was loading.

Combat / Action

  • You can now fire the musket and pistol while sliding.
  • Fixed a bug where using Crow’s “Sky Kick” near NPCs was treated as a crime.
  • Fixed a bug where the attack while jumping from an elevated position did not execute properly.
  • [Cliff] Fixed a bug that prevented the slide attack from triggering with certain equipment combinations.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the game to automatically switch to the primary weapon when using certain abilities while tools were equipped.
  • [Oongka] An issue has been resolved where the “Onslaught” ability was blocked when enemies were equipped with certain weapons.
  • [Oongka] An issue has been resolved where the Rocket Backpack Pack could not be used while jumping with the “Kuku Rocket Pack.”
  • [Oongka] Fixed an issue where it was not possible to mark targets while in flight.
  • [Oongka] Fixed an issue where the finishing blow with the “Great Hammer” would miss its target.
  • [Damiane] Fixed a bug where the animation was displayed incorrectly when using “Celestial Call.”

  • [Damiane] Fixed a bug so that the elemental-enhanced “Sword of Judgment” now triggers at the correct time when the Abyss equipment “Earth Slash” is equipped.
  • [Damiane] Fixed a bug where using “Fist of Flame” and quickly switching to the broom could cause the character to move unnaturally fast.
  • Fixed a bug where, after summoning the “Black Star” and subsequently using the power of the “Axiom,” no actions other than moving and jumping were possible.
  • Fixed a bug where you would attack with your bare hands after obtaining the “Messenger of Dawn” weapon.
  • Some of the Wyvern’s flight animations have been improved.

User Interface

  • The inventory now closes automatically when using an elixir.
  • [Oongka/Damiane] The character-switching interface that appears when quests are only available from a cliff has been improved.
  • In the dyeing interface, items that cannot be dyed can no longer be selected.
  • Only quests you are currently tracking are now displayed at the edge of the mini-map.
  • An issue was fixed where notifications about lost items related to the Wyvern were not displayed.
  • We have fixed an issue where trust notifications were not displayed correctly in the message history.
  • [Mouse/Keyboard] We have fixed an issue where, when selecting furniture, a different piece of furniture was displayed in the tooltip in the top-right corner instead of the selected one.

Graphics and Settings

  • [PS5] We fixed an issue where some cutscenes would occasionally stutter.
  • We fixed an issue where the game’s loading times were occasionally unusually long.
  • We fixed an issue where opening the map would occasionally cause a crash.
  • An issue was fixed where a rematch against a boss would occasionally cause a crash.
  • An issue was fixed where no error message was displayed when applying the engine options failed.

Localization

  • Localization errors in all languages have been fixed, and the overall quality of the localization has been improved.

Miscellaneous

  • Fixed an issue where the pinball machine’s flipper would not move upward.
  • Fixed an issue where the position of a fountain in the “Living Area” would shift when it was moved.
  • An issue was fixed where the descriptions for the knowledge about salmon and burbot were incorrect.
  • An issue was fixed where some effects on ships were displayed unnaturally.
  • An issue was fixed where certain quests were not marked as completed under specific circumstances.
  • Fixed an issue where some repeatable quests were incorrectly displayed as “Combat” instead of “Invasion.”
  • Fixed an issue where enemies in the Ruler Wastes did not appear under certain circumstances.
  • The tooltip for the drilling rig during the “Abandoned Drilling Station” quest has been improved.
  • Fixed an issue where necklaces would protrude through certain headgear when equipped.
  • Fixed an issue where the description of the glass lamp in the pavilion looked unnatural.
  • An issue has been fixed where accompanying Greymanes appeared unnaturally while “Revenge” was loading.
  • An issue has been fixed where the camera followed the Wind Ball when it was used while riding a Wyvern.
  • An issue has been fixed where some cars were rendered unnaturally.
  • Fixed an issue where some weapons were displayed unnaturally.
  • The description under “Miscellaneous – Help – Dragon Riding” has been corrected.
  • Under “Knowledge – Boss,” “Wounded Ludvig” has been changed to “One-Armed Ludvig.”
  • Fixed an issue where players could equip and unequip tools while talking to an NPC.
  • Fixed an issue where players could interact with some objects from unnatural angles.
  • Fixed an issue where, in certain situations, the player would overlap with objects while exploring a base.
  • Fixed an issue where the well’s bucket was not visible under certain conditions when the well was placed in “Living” mode.
  • Fixed an issue where players could no longer move after placing certain placeable objects in “Living” mode.
  • Fixed an issue where some placeable objects in “Living” mode would move when removed or rotated into an unintended position.
  • Fixed an issue where the Wyvern would freeze in certain situations after its death.
  • Fixed an issue where objects were already placed before the camp was established on Howling Hill.
  • [Controller] The button mapping has been adjusted so that it corresponds to the button being held down for certain button presses.
  • Fixed an issue where the “Liberation” progress was incorrectly displayed as 30% when completing quests in the Tribunal.
  • Fixed an issue where the description for the quest “Infiltrate Azerian’s Estate” was not displayed in certain situations.
  • Fixed an issue where the two-handed sword and its sheath were displayed incorrectly when visiting the shop and the dyer’s house.
  • Fixed an issue where the kakapo looked unnatural when the camera zoomed in while holding the bird.
  • Fixed an issue where the rider’s movement looked unnatural when riding a wild bear without a saddle.
  • Fixed an issue where clothing looked unnatural while riding certain animals.
  • [Oongka] The description for “Grab” has been adjusted to match the equipped weapon.
  • [Oongka/Damiane] Fixed an issue where a green effect was displayed when using the Axiom Bracelet while hanging.
  • [Oongka] The descriptions for using certain Great Hammer skills have been updated to match their actual behavior.
  • [Damiane] The silhouettes of certain outfits have been improved.
  • An issue where effects appeared unnatural when the Energy Core was moved using the Power of the Axiom under certain circumstances has been fixed.
  • The silhouette of the rider while riding a wild wolf has been improved.
  • An issue where the camera did not function correctly when certain monsters were in a dazed state has been fixed.
  • An issue where the descriptions of blueprints and knowledge for Abyss equipment were incorrect has been fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where the Lucky Box was displayed as a bag.
  • Fixed an issue where map knowledge from the “Constellation Research Journal” could only be acquired on the left side.
  • Fixed an issue where traps placed by NPCs displayed the “Take” interaction button instead of “Steal.”
  • Fixed an issue where players were occasionally revived in unusual positions.
  • The description of “Bunting” has been updated.
