The biggest releases are all coming out in September and October, but only one title is brave enough to take on GTA 6 head-on.
You may have already heard:GTA 6is coming out in November 2026. But this isn’t just keeping gamers on the edge of their seats—it’s also got numerous development studios and publishers on edge. No one wants to go head-to-head with this mega-release.
That’s whymany big titles are squeezing into the gap between the summer slump and the GTA 6 release, which spans the months of September and October. But one game isn’t afraid of Rockstar’s open-world giant:Barbie Rewindis coming out on November 12, a week before GTA 6.
A Clash of the Giants – Really!
This curious comparison caused a stir on social media (for exampleReddit) and is currently the basis for a lot of memes. Users are writing things like:»Rockstar will run away in fear«or »GTA 6 doesn’t stand a chance.«.
Even under the trailer for Barbie R
Joking aside; Barbie Rewind itself probably won’t outshine GTA 6. The target audiences are far too different for that. However, Barbie is also backed by a massive franchise that has already raked in huge sums of money outside the toy industry.
The 2023 Barbie movie was a major box office hit. This year, it grossed $1.4 billion worldwide, landing at the number one spot among the most successful films. The biographical historical film Oppenheimer took third place at the time with earnings of just under a billion.
Here, too, the community took a liking to the unlikely pairing. Under the portmanteau “Barbenheimer,” memes piled up by the dozen, likely contributing to the success of both films.
But the world of video games is also anything but foreign to the Mattel doll. Since 1984, over 50 Barbie games have hit the market. In 1996, Barbie Fashion Designer was even released as a historic milestone. The dress-up game sold worldwide in its first year after release600,000 copies. This put Barbie Fashion Designer far ahead of Doom (65,000 between 1993 and 1994) and Quake (373,500 in 1996)
What exactly is Barbie Rewind?
So Barbie has nothing to hide when it comes to gaming, either. With Barbie Rewind, the blonde’s forays into the world of video games are now being reignited. The retro game collection features 16 classics released between 1991 and 2007.
You’ll play retro titles that were once released for the NES, Sega Genesis, and PC. The never-released Barbie: Vacation Adventure, a side-scroller with mini-games, is also included. Overarching this is the design of Barbie’s Dreamhouse, which you can furnish with hundreds of pieces of furniture and decorative items.
GTA 6 will have to try to match that first.
