God of War continues, but without Kratos. The new game tells the story of his wife, Faye, though not her past.
At the State of Play in June 2026, Sony Santa Monica unveiled the next game set in the world of Kratos. But Kratos doesn’t play the lead role in God of War Laufey; instead, it’s his wife, Faye (or Laufey), who was introduced in the 2018 reboot.
We’ve compiled the first details from this recent announcement for you.

Release and Platform
So far, there isno release windowfor God of War Laufey. However, since Sony has moved away from the strategy of releasing games for PC as well, it will most likely be a PlayStation exclusive title.
Story and Setting
Anyone who immediately wonders upon the announcement, “Wait, she’s dead—are we getting a prequel here?” is only right about the first part.
Yes, the 2018 reboot of God of War begins with Faye’s funeral, but she then awakens in a world foreign to her—the All-When. The new game’s story thus unfolds in parallel with the plot involving Kratos and Atreus.
In this place, gods and creatures from a wide variety of mythologiescome together. Right at the start, Faye encounters the Egyptian goddessSekhmet and Begtse, a god of war from Mongolian culture.

Unlike the two gods, Faye is on good terms with two other acquaintances. One is thetalking cosmic cube Phranqueand the equally vocal magicalsword Rue.
While Faye is once again portrayed by actress Deborah Ann Woll, known from Daredevil, Jack Quaid from The Boys lends his voice to the cube. The blade’s words come from Perlinda Lau.
Gameplay and Trailer
The announcement was accompanied by a whopping23 minutes of gameplay, which most likely also represents the first few minutes of the game:
Unlike her muscle-bound husband, Faye is just as powerful, butsignificantly more agile. With her magical sword, she unleashes lightning-fast attacks and loves to catapult her opponents into the air to rain down combo strikes on them.
A special combat feature is her goldenFist of the Jötnar, with which she can not only strike powerfully but also manipulate the souls of her opponents.
But thesword Ruecan do more than just strike and stab. The three bands on the pommel, with their blade-tipped ends, are not only suitable for area attacks but also for grabbing enemies and catapulting herself toward them.
We’ll find out which gods Faye will encounter in the Allworld, what tasks and challenges await her there, and whether there’s a way back to her family as soon as Sony reveals more about the next God of War. We’ll keep you updated on all these topics, and especially the release date.
