Now, a fan claims to have found concrete evidence of one of these features in GTA Online, and several news sites have reported on it.However, it appears to be a hoax.
What caused the confusion?
This Reddit post caused a stir when someone shared asupposed remnantof a GTA 6 test in GTA Online: the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which can be used to identify each individual vehicle.

According to the original post, this system does not yet exist in the single-player GTAs or GTA Online. However, another poster has sinceclarified that this is not code accidentally copied from GTA 6, but rather a component that has been part of GTA Online since 2013—that is, since its launch. However, the text message is only visible under certain circumstances for stolen vehicles with a CHASSIS4 slot.
Presumably, a feature that was originally planned was scaled back or scrapped, and the remaining code stayed in GTA Online.
For GTA 6, this means we’ll have to keep waiting for the big gameplay reveal. According to Rockstar and Take-Two, summer 2026 is set to answer many burning questions.
