The popular Soulslike game *Lies of P* is getting a sequel. This should be cause for celebration among fans—but some are currently up in arms over a specific AI element in the sequel.

Lies of Pis getting a sequel, which has already passed the prototype stage and is well on its way. This is according tothe report on publisher NeoWiz’s first-quarter 2026 revenue. This should actually be a cause for celebration among fans.

But some are already unhappy: This is related to a job posting from developer Round8.The studio is looking for anAI Creatorfor Lies of P 2, which raises questions about how AI will specifically be used in the sequel.

AI Developer Wanted for Lies of P 2

Thanks to the internal report, some facts about Lies of P 2 are already known. According to the report, the sequel will once again be a Souls-like RPG and is currently nearing the vertical slice milestone. This means the initial concept phase is already complete, the systems are roughly in place, and the focus is now on developing a functional version with the most important content.

The sequel uses Unreal Engine 5and thus treats itself to an upgrade compared to its predecessor. There are also rumors of an open-world approach—something thatElden Ringhas already integrated into the genre in an exemplary manner. Given the current development status, however, it will likely be a while before the release is scheduled or we hear more concrete details from the developer.

However, further information is provided bya recent job posting from the South Korean developer(machine-translated viaThe Gamer) — and for many fans, it leaves a bad taste in their mouths. The studio is looking for someone with two or more years of experience with Midjourney and Stable Diffusion,i.e., generative AI.

The goal of the position isto generate concept art, textures, and asset conversions from 2D to 3D, though the description leaves open whether this content will actually be used one-to-one in the game or is intended more as internal references for the artists involved. Apparently, however, it is intended to be used in a variety of ways and to accompany the entire artistic development process.

AI is and remains a major topic, especially when it comes to visuals. Just recently, Nvidia sparked heated discussions with this video about the extent to which artificial intelligence should intervene in graphics:

Community Frustration:The Most Disrespectful Thing You Can Do to Artists

Criticism in the Steam reviews of the predecessor (These have recently dropped from 93 percent positive to 85 percent), as well as on X and Reddit, followed promptly. Many players are speaking out clearly against the use of AI and expressing their disappointment:

This single post on Xhas been viewed over a million times. The comments section is filled with heated discussions on the topic. Many express concern, that the series’ very distinctive Belle Époque art style could suffer as a result. Others, however, highlight the irony that a game in which the question of humanity plays a crucial role might now be losing precisely that behind the scenes.

On Steam, criticism is also being voiced that goes beyond the job posting. Even with Part 1, it seemsgenerative AI was reportedly used in isolated instances. Although this most likely involves only a few framed pictures used as props, the topic apparently strikes a nerve with some people in general. For example,

Wait and see

However, other stakeholders view the situation as less dramaticand are calling for a realistic approach. For example,User PeterLeroy:

That’s just unavoidable. I work in post-production, and AI is already being used everywhere for CG work. Presumably, all video game companies are currently using some form of AI. What really matters is how it’s used—as a tool or as pure slop?

Regardless of how widespread AI has become, he hits the nail on the head in that,it is currently still completely unclear how AI is specifically intended to be used in Lies of P 2. The fans’ frustration is understandable; after all, it is precisely the distinctive and unique aesthetic of Lies of P that stands out—the Belle Époque look paired with futuristic robots clearly sets it apart from other games with purely medieval fantasy or sci-fi visuals.

And it is precisely this aesthetic that the extensive use of generative AI could jeopardize. However, if the developers and artists primarily use AI as a tool to make their work easier, this may only have a limited impact on the game’s final visuals and art direction.

Lies of P was originally released in 2023 and turned out to be a huge success. The Soulslike not only raked in good reviews and became a fan favorite, but also managed to sell 3 million units by 2025. The journey continued back then with the Overture DLC as a prequel, but now a full-fledged sequel seems to be on the way.

In addition to that, other interesting titles seem to be joining the publisher’s portfolio. The report also mentions a narrative RPG called Project Rubicon (also in the vertical slice stage), as well as Project Windi, which is set to be another Soulslike.
