For fans of authentic modern military shooters, there’s a phenomenal deal in the current Steam sale.
Is CoD too childish for you, BF6 too hectic, and do you long for tactical firefights with realistic scenarios? Then there are a few deals on Steam right now that you should definitely check out.
I’m kevin and I’ve picked out four titles that I enjoy playing myself. And all together, they’ll only cost you around 63 euros—the same as a single full-price game! But you’ll have to act fast, because time is running out.
Gray Zone Warfare
Gray Zone Warfare(GZW) can best be described as a hybrid of Escape from Tarkov and Ghost Recon. While essentially an extraction shooter, GWZ doesn’t force anyone into intense PvP battles: co-op against the AI, PvPvE, and even pure single-player missions are possible.
Nevertheless, GZW is uncompromisingly realistic: Detailed weapon simulation with ballistics, wound care, deadly enemies, and dynamic weather and lighting conditions make a methodical approach and thorough preparation for missions essential. Combined with the incredibly detailed open world featuring dense jungle, this creates a powerful atmosphere. GWZ has just received its biggest update to date with the Spearhead patch.
The loot system was completely overhauled, 100 quests were added, the sound design was improved, and the AI (previously often criticized as unfair) also received an update. A massive leap forward for this promising military sandbox and an ideal entry point for new players!
Operator
(Genre:Tactical Shooter – Developer:Vector Interactive – Release:August 2023 (Early Access) – Sale Price: 10 euros (50% off) – Steam Reviews:80.84% positive)
Operator takes the realistic portrayal of special forces operations seriously—very seriously. From the astonishingly extensive weapon customization options to the granular movement with seamless leaning and crouching systems, everything here is designed to deliver a tactical experience.
Even the slide of your service pistol must be manually released when reloading. Very few first-person shooters feature this much attention to detail! Anyone who’s been hoping for a Ready or Not with a military setting instead of a police one will find what they’re looking for here: counter-terrorism missions around the globe are on the agenda and can be completed either solo or as a co-op team.
There is also a separate PvP mode, but the focus is clearly on battles against the AI. And as befits a hardcore game, the interface is reduced to an absolute minimum and the tutorial is still very spartan, but those who overcome these hurdles will find a military simulation that is right at the forefront in terms of immersion.
Road to Vostok
Genre:Survival shooter – Developer:Antti Leinonen – Release:April 2026 (Early Access) – Sale price:15 euros (25% off) – Steam Reviews:77.33% positive
Extraction shooters like Escape from Tarkov or Arena Breakout hold a great deal of appeal. But the genre’s PvP focus also puts many people off. Not everyone wants to go head-to-head with others at an esports level after work—people who seem to have done nothing but grind this one game for the past three years! Road to Vostok has a simple solution: it’s a pure single-player game.
However, the absence of a multiplayer component doesn’t mean the game is easy—quite the opposite, in fact! Finnish solo developer Antti Leinonen stages a brutal fight for survival in which every bullet, every first-aid kit, and every bottle of water can mean the difference between life and death.
Road to Vostok places particular emphasis on realistic gunplay: In battles against various factions such as mercenaries, militias, or bandits, magazines must be reloaded individually (and with the correct caliber), and you should by no means forget to insert a ballistic armor plate into your protective vest. Once you’ve built a solid base and gathered enough equipment, you can travel to more dangerous and lucrative zones that serve as mini-open worlds.
Intravenous 2
Genre:Top-down shooter – Developer:Explosive Squat Games – Release:August 2024 – Sale price:11 euros (45% off) – Steam Reviews:91.51% positive
Don’t let the visuals fool you: Intravenous 2 (like its sensational predecessor) isn’t just another run-of-the-mill knockoff of Hotline Miami, but a surprisingly deep stealth-tactical shooter reminiscent of the absolute heyday of Splinter Cell or Metal Gear.
Freedom of play is a top priority here: attaching a silencer to your weapon, shooting out lights, and darting through the shadows is just as valid a gameplay option as clipping a drum magazine onto your G36 and storming room by room (provided you have the reflexes, of course).
What’s particularly cool: The enemy AI dynamically and intelligently adapts to the player’s approach, using flanking maneuvers, seeking cover, calling for reinforcements, and holding key positions. This quickly sparks a cat-and-mouse game that’s hard to beat in terms of suspense. Thanks to the wide variety of gadgets and attachments—such as muzzle brakes, flashbangs, sticky bombs, bolt cutters, welding torches, and more—countless solutions are available for every mission.
The fact that gameplay decisions actively influence the course of the dark storyline is the proverbial icing on the cake. By the way: For just six euros, you can get the remaster of the predecessor as a bonus DLC. And Intravenous 3 has already been announced.
