Among the demos at Steam Next Fest were numerous ones that were generated entirely or partially with AI. Steam users would like to see a filter, but there is a big problem with that.

Steam Next Fest is always a wonderful opportunity to discover new games. Thousands of free demos go live and are then available for a week (or in many cases even longer). But now that AI-generated content—or even entire games, if Unity’s CEO has his way—are flooding the internet, many users are disappointed by the lack of options for sorting out the “slop.”

A filter would help enormously – but that opens up a new problem: developers who, despite their obligations, do not disclose that they are using generative AI.

“Want to be able to block it like porn games”

For some time now, the number of AI-generated games or those that rely heavily on content created with AI has been increasing on Steam. The use of such content must actually be clearly labeled. However, disclaimers are often missing, which means that even a filter option like the one for pornographic content would not help.

Unless an option is added to block all AI slop games the same way we can block porn games from showing up, this Steam Next Fext will probably be the last that matters.& lt;/a>
