Actor Tom McKay was invited to rank all the possible relationships from Kingdom Come 1 and 2. Hansry fans will be very happy to hear his opinion.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance can be highly romantic—or not at all, depending on how you decide to play. The two role-playing games feature four major and several minor relationships that Heinrich can engage in. Or not, as all of them are optional.

For many, however, romance is an integral part of role-playing games, and of course every KCD fan has their own preferences and opinions about who is best suited to Heinrich. Now actor Tom McKay, who lends Heinrich his face, movements, and original voice, has shared his personal ranking. The winner of his heart is also dearly loved by the community.

This is what Heinrich’s romance ranking looks like

Please note: This was a so-called blind ranking, meaning that Tom McKay was not given all the romances for the ranking at once, but had to assign them a place directly. In the end, this list was the result:

12th place: Margaret

It’s easy to miss this little romance from KCD2. You have to complete several side quests that start in Bylany. At the end, you can let Margaret kiss you and end up in bed with her, but she also steals 250 groschen from you. Not very romantic.

11th place: Adela

Another often forgotten short experience from KCD. Adela is a bathhouse worker in Ledetschko.

10th place: Doubravka

You meet Doubravka in KCD2 at the wedding in Semin and can dance with her. She then tries to seduce Heinrich and, when that doesn’t work, to make him compliant by means of spiked schnapps – definitely not a romance, but a disturbing assault, which the game does not address as such, however.

9th place: Johanka of Zhernov

The noble widow is one of two romance options Heinrich meets at the banquet in Trosky. She is fascinated by his adventure stories and invites him to take a walk on the battlements at night.

8th place: Lausige Marie

She works in the bathhouse in Kuttenberg and is not averse to a brief adventure with Heinrich if he drinks with her. It remains a one-time fling.

7th place: Stephanie von Talmberg

A romance option from the first game that is not unpopular among fans, but also much discussed. Lady Stephanie is significantly older and more experienced than Heinrich and is also reasonably happily married to Sir Divish von Talmberg. However, the two have not yet been able to produce an heir, so Stephanie is looking for another possible father for her child – and that’s when the naive Heinrich stumbles into Talmberg, just at the right moment.

She tries to seduce him under a pretext by giving him an expensive shirt belonging to her father. If Heinrich accepts, he ends up in her posh bed – which took some players by surprise. Lady Stephanie does not appear in person in KCD2, but it is mentioned that she is pregnant. This could be Heinrich’s doing, if you responded to her advances.

6th place: Klara

A brief potential romance from KCD2. Klara invites Heinrich on a walk to pick herbs, during which the two can get closer. It soon turns out that she belongs to Jan Zizka’s troupe and was tasked with distracting Heinrich.

However, she seems to feel a little genuine affection when Heinrich later helps her tend to the wounded. She then asks him if they can sleep next to each other because she feels safer that way. The next day, Klara disappears during the siege and her fate remains unclear.

5th place: Bartosch von Drahonize

The knight is the first same-sex romance option open to Heinrich. Bartosch also takes part in the banquet in Trosky. If you have talked to him beforehand about your shared experiences as bodyguards and perhaps even completed a training fight, he is quite clearly attracted to Heinrich.

At the festival, he invites him to share a private glass of brandy. If Heinrich accepts the (very clearly worded) invitation, the two spend nine hours in bed, which has long been a running joke in the community about their amazing stamina. Later, Heinrich can meet Bartosch again, but he no longer mentions their night together.

Incidentally, Bartosch is based on a real historical figure, Bartošek z Drahenic, a medieval chronicler who is considered an important source for the Hussite Wars.

4th place: Rosa Ruthard

One of the four major romances in the role-playing games, albeit the shortest of them. Rosa Ruthard is the daughter of a wealthy citizen of Kuttenberg who was elevated to the nobility. After her brother died during the recent siege of the city, she is now the heir to her family, a role she takes very seriously. She actively supports Heinrich and the Devil’s Pack.

Heinrich can help her write a story and rescue her favorite book from the enemy-occupied fortress of Maleschau. Whether purely as friends or romantically, the two end up in bed together. Rosa immediately makes it clear that it was no big deal for her and that there will be no future together, because she must (and wants to) marry someone of higher status.

Rosa is based on a character from a Czech legend, Rozina Ruthardova, who was walled up in a cellar by her rich but miserly father, where she died and later haunted the house as a ghost.

3rd place: Katharina

The second of three true romances in KCD2 can be started with Katharina, whom you meet at the beginning of the game. At first, she treats you with contempt, but later she turns out to be an agent of Zizka and thus an ally.
She rescues Heinrich from Trosky and quickly builds up her own spy network in Kuttenberg.

You decide whether the relationship with her is more familial or romantic. Katharina responds to most of Heinrich’s attempts at flirtation with derision, but shortly before the finale, her true feelings come to the surface and the two are able to say a very heartfelt goodbye to each other. After Heinrich’s return, it remains unclear whether the two will begin a relationship or if it was a one-time thing after all.

2nd place: Theresa

The greatest romance from the first game, and the most popular among many fans. Theresa from Skalitz is the daughter of a miller’s family and Heinrich’s childhood friend. The two survive the massacre and save each other’s lives. No wonder they become either close friends or lovers.

Theresa is the only character Heinrich can actually date, as there is no relationship simulation of this kind in KCD2. However, it is possible to mess things up, for example if you cheat on Theresa with the bathhouse ladies. She will quickly find out and confront you. She may also break up with you if you go too far.

1st place: Hans Capon von Pirkstein

Tom McKay’s favorite romance is the one that caused the biggest stir: in KCD2, Lord Hans Capon and Henry can fall in love with each other. Well, even back in the first game, some fans had sensed certain vibes between the two, which in retrospect weren’t all that subtle. And according to Warhorse, that was also the reason why a complete love story was written for the two characters – because the community had pushed for it, as Tom McKay also explains in the video.

We were so surprised by this during the test phase that we asked the developers directly whether the first corresponding dialogue option was really intentionally marked as romantic. Yes, and behind it lies by far the most detailed and profound romance in the game, because Hans and Heinrich usually experience their adventures together, so they also spend much more time together than is possible with any of the other options.

Added to this is the historical context, which makes love between two men a particularly dramatic affair. The relationship develops tentatively until Heinrich faces almost certain death and the two finally come together. Hans is the only character who clearly states at the end that he wants to continue the love affair – even though his arranged wedding is imminent and the two can never be open about their relationship.

For Tom McKay, the love story, which is closely intertwined with the main story (yet optional), is “brilliant, written with great care” and “beautiful.” That’s why he deliberately left the number one spot open until he could add Hans to the ranking.

Within the KCD community, Theresa and Hans are also the two most popular love interests for Heinrich, but only in general terms, of course—the others have their fans too. It’s certainly no coincidence that the relationships with the most content also score the highest. Who is your favorite? Do you have several, depending on how you play Heinrich? Or have you perhaps remained completely alone and unromantic?
