The Lenovo Legion Go 1 will no longer receive any further driver updates.

Lenovo entered the handheld market in September 2023 to compete with Steam Deck and others. The Lenovo Legion Go (Gen 1) stood out from the crowd with features such as detachable controllers and an excellent screen. 30 months later, driver support for the handheld is said to have been discontinued, which has not gone down well with owners and fans.

Korean Lenovo Support: “No further update plans”

The end of support has not been officially announced, but it does come from Lenovo itself. A user wrote to Korean Support because he was surprised that the new Legion Go S models had received three updates since last August, while the first handheld had received none.

Lenovo’s response shocked more than just him. We translated it into English using Gemini:

Hello, valued customer.

Thank you for using our product and providing us with your valuable feedback.

We would like to provide you with detailed information regarding the BIOS and driver updates you requested for the Legion Go model.

Incompatibility between models:

Please understand that the Legion Go and Legion Go S models have different hardware designs that are optimized for each device. Therefore, the BIOS and drivers are not compatible between these models and cannot be used together.

End of update planning:

It has been confirmed that there are no further update plans for the current Legion Go model. We therefore recommend the following alternatives:

Windows and Lenovo Vantage updates:

Please first perform all essential system updates via the official channels (Windows Update and Lenovo Vantage).

Individual graphics driver updates:

If you need the latest graphics driver, we recommend downloading and installing the current general graphics driver directly from the official AMD website.

Note: Since this is the Z1 chipset, drivers released by AMD may not be compatible. In this case, please continue to use the version updated via Windows or Lenovo Vantage.

We regret that we cannot provide you with a more satisfactory answer. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.

There is now widespread discontent in the communities, and some are losing confidence in Lenovo’s handhelds.& nbsp;

AMD Seemingly Stops Driver Updates for Ryzen Z1 Extreme Processor

One user draws a bitter comparison with MSI and Intel: In the last four months, the Lenovo Legion Go 2, a very expensive handheld device, has only received one driver update. During the same period, the MSI Caw 8 AI+ received five new Intel updates.

In the GlobalESportNews community, the MSI Claw 8 AI+ is also receiving more and more praise – owners are satisfied.

Our MSI Claw 8 AI+ review: I’ve tested 10 handhelds and haven’t come across such a good overall package yet.

We have requested an official statement from Lenovo and will update the article as soon as there is any news on this matter.

Other handhelds may also be affected: Some users note that the first Asus ROG Ally has not received a new graphics driver since August 2025.
It is therefore possible that AMD will no longer support the Z1 chips, which means that manufacturers will not be able to provide any further updates.
What can those affected do?
If you own a Lenovo Legion Go 1, your games will not suddenly stop working, but optimizations for future games may not be available.

There are therefore three options:

  • Wait and see: If the games you like to play run smoothly, you don’t necessarily have to do anything.
  • Download AMD drivers via sideloading: Instead of getting the drivers directly from Lenovo, you can manually download the official drivers for the Radeon 780M GPU from AMD.
  • Install SteamOS or another Linux distribution: The Lenovo Legion Go is officially compatible with SteamOS. We tried it ourselves, and the gaming experience is not far off from the Steam Deck.

On the bright side: This is also an opportunity to save money

Because this handheld is now more than two years old and will no longer receive new updates from Lenovo, quite a few people will sell it and switch to a new device.

You can already find the device on sales platforms for used devices for prices between $200 and $400.

In times of sold-out Steam Decks, rising prices, and poor hardware availability, this is a real blessing for anyone who wants to buy a handheld this year and isn’t afraid of a little manual labor.

By installing SteamOS, you get a fast handheld device with a beautiful screen and regular updates.
