A new multiplayer shooter with a realistic feel aims to steal BF6’s thunder later this year.

Hardly anyone has noticed that the creators of Battalion 1944 are working on a new multiplayer shooter called Wardogs – no trailers, no marketing, hardly any information.

But now the first gameplay details have been revealed, which are sure to catch the attention of fans of military shooters such as Battlefield, World War 3, and Hell Let Loose!

Several content creators from the shooter scene were able to talk to the developers about the project in detail for the first time in January and also got to see some initial gameplay footage:

Influencer TheCadWoman, known for her Battlefield videos, headlines: “This new Battlefield rival looks fantastic!” and describes Wardogs as follows:

  • Wardogs is a tactical sandbox shooter with up to 100 players at a time, combining infantry with ground and air vehicles (tanks, helicopters, etc.).
  • A special feature: unlike traditional MP shooters, three teams compete against each other at the same time, which creates a different dynamic.
  • Wardogs is said to include elements of hardcore shooters and is therefore positioned somewhere between the gameplay of Battlefield and Hell Let Loose.
  • There is level destruction, although the extent of this has not yet been fully clarified; a gameplay scene shows how a house facade is destroyed by rocket fire.
  • With the help of a construction mechanic, players can build certain structures such as sandbag barriers themselves, which seems roughly comparable to the construction system in Battlefield 5.
  • The game uses Unreal Engine 5 for realistic, gritty visuals, offers authentic modern weapon systems, and features maps inspired by real-world locations.

The creators emphasize that this is not a battle royale or extraction shooter – apparently to deliberately set it apart from the current trends in the genre.

Wardogs is set to launch in early access for PC in 2026, with the full release (including a console version) to follow in 2027.

What do you think of these early impressions of Wardogs, and do you think the shooter could be a real competitor for BF6? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
