The problem with faulty vehicle skins in Battlefield 6 apparently goes further than previously thought. Another tank skin with a major vulnerability has now appeared.
Just a few days ago, we reported on a serious skin problem in Battlefield 6: The Phantom paint job, a vehicle skin for tanks that only buyers of the BF6 Phantom Edition, which costs around $100, receive, has a huge weakness.
This is because frontal hits to the two radar domes that the skin adds to the right and left of the turret of your Abrams battle tank cause over 600 damage points – that’s around 60 percent of the vehicle’s total health points. This is a critical hit to a part of the tank that does not exist in standard skins.
Even hits to the rear of the tank, a realistic weak spot, only cause around 500 damage points. Instead of pay2win
, for many players online, this is pay2lose
, i.e., pay to lose. But now, another tank skin has appeared, which also brings with it tangible gameplay disadvantages – and it’s even free.
We’re talking about the Gold Standard skin for the Leopard 2 A4 and M1A2 battle tanks, which all players with Vehicle Mastery Level 50 can unlock. The skin adds an impressive dozer blade to your tank, which is decorated with a roll of barbed wire on top. However, the dozer blade has no practical use; it is more of a gigantic weak point.
Apparently, rocket launcher hits to the shield cause up to 750 damage if you have never upgraded your tank’s armor before. And even with an armor upgrade, the damage for an RPG hit to the front attachment is around 640 points, as one Reddit user writes:
FYI, The Gold Standard Skin for MBTs adds a massive weakspot to your front.

Under the Reddit thread, some players are now speculating about how these vulnerabilities came about and that they couldn’t possibly have been added intentionally by Dice. One theory is that the skin attachments have no armor value of their own. Hits in these areas therefore completely ignore the tank’s armor and directly inflict the maximum possible damage.
By the way, a tank in BF6 has 1000 hit points by default.
Other players are now rightly wondering why skins can influence gameplay at all. Normally, such cosmetics are just that: cosmetic items that only change the appearance but leave the stats of your characters and vehicles unchanged.
In the case of Battlefield 6, however, you should currently think twice about using vehicle skins, as they actively weaken your tanks. For now, we recommend sticking with the good old standard paint job without any shields, superstructures, or radar enhancements. That way, you’ll live longer in case of doubt.
