“GTA 6 postponed: ‘We need more time’ – why the wait is now even longer”

Rumors of a possible schedule crash have been circulating for months. Analysts and insiders warned that the release window was too optimistic. Now it’s official: the original target date of May 26, 2026, has been scrapped. Rockstar confirms that “further refinement is necessary” to meet its own quality standards. The developers know that disappointed fans would be worse than a later launch.

Rockstar is not keeping the most important information under wraps, however: The new release date for GTA 6 is November 19, 2026 – initially for the PS5.  This extends the wait by over a year. A blow to the gut for anyone who had already planned their virtual comeback in Florida.

But perhaps this hesitation is exactly the right decision. The huge open game world, the return to Vice City, dynamic story elements, and two main characters – all of this takes time to work perfectly. A bumpy start like other AAA blockbusters is out of the question for Rockstar. They would rather polish it longer before the game hits like a neon flash.

Until then, keep your eyes peeled for new trailers, official information, and every little clue. Because one thing is certain – when Grand Theft Auto returns, the city should not only welcome us, but overwhelm us.
