In the previous game, the wet element was almost completely ignored, but that could change with Battlefield 6.

Battlefield 6 is coming out this week, but EA and Battlefield Studios are already planning for the future. Of course, that includes the first season, which starts on October 28, but the developers are already thinking about how they can implement the wishes expressed by the community.

The EA deal: Background on the new owners

In September 2025, it was announced that EA would be privatized and transferred to an investor consortium for approximately $54 billion. The new owners of EA include the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund PIF and Affinity Partners, Jared Kushner’s investment firm. Saudi Arabia is accused of political and human rights abuses, such as the persecution of activists and journalists. There is also deep-rooted discrimination against minorities. Freedom of expression is structurally suppressed. Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, has repeatedly been criticized for dubious real estate deals, secret contacts with the Russian government, and allegations of corruption. Kushner also maintains close contact with Saudi Crown Prince and PIF Chairman Mohammed bin Salman.

War at Sea

While watercraft will not be part of Battlefield 6 at launch, the developers are already toying with the idea of adding war at sea to the game at a later date

In a community update on the findings from player feedback, watercraft are at least hinted at. It states: “[…] requests for naval warfare have not gone unnoticed […]”.

While this is not a clear confirmation, it does give hope that the developers are actively considering the introduction of watercraft.

What could this mean in terms of content?

While Battlefield 2042 completely dispenses with this type of content, earlier installments offered a range of possibilities for what war at sea could mean.

Battlefield 4, for example, had various boats such as jet skis, inflatable boats, and lightly armed gunboats to provide transport and firepower at sea on the water maps.

In contrast, Battlefield 1942 (yes, that was over 20 years ago) even featured submarines, aircraft carriers, and destroyers that could be controlled by players and used in combat.

It is currently unknown where Battlefield 6 might fall between these two examples. However, since larger ships were mostly only used as spawn points in games after 1942, the trend is leaning more toward smaller boats.

When might this happen?

The developers have not specified a timeframe. Although the content of the first season of Battlefield 6 is labeled as a “preview,” it is unlikely that the water vehicles hinted at will appear during this period. Boats and similar vehicles are not expected until next year.

However, usable boats were already seen in a leak about Battle Royale. This means that this feature already exists in Battlefield 6 and is not too far from being implemented in multiplayer.

In addition to the “war at sea” hint, the developers also mention other fan requests that could be implemented in Battlefield 6 in the future. These include the return of the Little Bird combat helicopter and the introduction of platoons. These are in-game clans where players can get together and organize themselves.
