Bioshock 4 seems to be stuck in development hell, but the CEO of 2K has given the all-clear: the game will not be canceled.

Over a decade has passed since the last Bioshock title was released. And since the end of Infinite, work has apparently been underway on a fourth installment – with little success, it seems.

Just yesterday, we reported on massive problems with the project: the top job at the development studio is being passed on, the story was apparently not satisfactory, and the developers are fearing for their jobs due to a statement by 2K boss Strauss Zelnick.

Meanwhile, Bioshock fans are trembling that the entire project will be scrapped. But that will not happen under any circumstances, as Zelnick now promises.

Bioshock 4 will be released

In an interview with IGN, the CEO makes it clear: “It will be released. I can say that with my hand on my heart.” However, Zelnick also admits that they have had difficulties with Bioshock 4:

“We don’t talk about how long our development cycles are. We’ve had some ups and downs along the way. That’s true. And we’ve had changes in studio leadership.

But we also have big shoes to fill with BioShock, given the legacy of Ken Levine, the legacy of what came before and was so successful. And we need to make sure that this experience stays true to the BioShock DNA on the one hand, and takes a big step forward on the other. That’s always a challenge. We believe we’re up to the challenge, but it hasn’t always been easy.”

After Infinite, Ken Levine devoted himself to other projects because the personal pressure was too high for him. He is currently working on Judas with his new studio Ghost Story Games. You can watch the story trailer right here above.
