Lucky break: Because a hacker targeted him, a Steam user stumbled upon one of the best games of the 2000s.

Something pretty weird happened to Reddit user Influence_X recently. According to his account, a hacker apparently managed to gain access to his ancient MSN Hotmail account.

The intruder continued to wreak havoc from the email inbox. Among other things, he tried to hijack Influence_X’s Steam account by resetting the password.

The twist: the user himself had long since forgotten about the existence of this account. His last login was an impressive 4,712 days ago!

A Russian hacked my old Hotmail and tried to recover a Steam account I forgot about, now I have an 18-year-old account with one game…

A valuable find

Influence_X was understandably curious when he became aware of the almost antique Steam account thanks to the hacker. After dealing with the intruder, he logged into Valve’s gaming platform.

He was amazed: He only had two games in his possession. One of them made him particularly happy, because it was Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.

Many of you may sigh nostalgically when you hear this name. No wonder: The action role-playing game scored a whopping 90 points in our review at the time (PDF) and is still considered one of the best games from Arkane Studios (Dishonored, Prey).

How old is your Steam account?

An 18-year-old Steam account is worthy of respect. Let’s remember: Steam officially launched on September 12, 2003. That means the maximum age of an account is currently 21, and in a month it will be 22.

Time for a quick survey to wrap things up: How old is your Steam account? Leave us your answer so we can get a rough idea of whether the GlobalESportNews community is made up of oldies or youngsters.

A few examples from our editorial team: Sören’s account was created on February 16, 2008, so it’s 17 years old. Dimi’s account is 15 years old, Fabiano has had his Steam license for 14 years, and Natalie opened her account just in time for the release of Alan Wake: American Nightmare – 13 years ago.

Bringing up the rear is our baby Franzi, whose Steam account isn’t even a year old. Will anyone else be hitting the 22-year mark soon? We can’t wait to find out!
