When a Coldplay concert suddenly becomes an internet phenomenon

What was planned as a romantic gesture became a viral hit within minutes: During a Coldplay performance, the “Kiss Cam” shows a supposed couple – but instead of a kiss, chaos ensues. The two jump apart in shock, hide their faces, and cause a commotion. Chris Martin commented with a wink that the duo was probably “shy – or caught cheating.”

The latter turned out to be true.
As it turned out, the two were the CEO and HR director of a billion-dollar tech company called Astronomer. And they weren’t there together officially. The scene went viral – and didn’t remain a purely online phenomenon for long.

Musician and web artist Jonathan Mann, known for his “Song a Day” series, seized the moment: within a day, he used AI to program a little game called Coldplay Canoodlers.

The game is as simple as it is clever: as a camera operator, you have to scan the pixelated concert audience and spot the two employees who are secretly flirting with each other – you get points for each one you find.

Although the game is not available on platforms such as Steam, it is easy to play online and makes many people smile. It impressively shows how quickly an embarrassing moment can develop into a pop culture phenomenon with a gaming twist – very much in keeping with the digital zeitgeist.
