The Rise of the Sentinels event in League of Legends was announced with quite a bit of hype, but does it live up to those high expectations?

The cross-game Rise of the Sentinels event has been hailed as one of Riot Games’ biggest events, encompassing multiple League of Legends-focused games. Looking at what we’ve gotten so far as part of the event, some are certainly quite disappointed. For example, many are complaining about how time-consuming it is to achieve the event missions and how little content it has given so far.

Too much grind for the payoff

Players must complete regions to earn rewards – with more locations being added over time. One of the biggest complaints is the number of points required to complete these regions – as they require an insane amount of play time. Many players will therefore probably not be able to complete some of them, let alone get the rewards and follow the entire story.

Unimaginative stories.
Apart from having to invest so many hours in the game, there are many complaints from people who are very interested in the backstory of League of Legends. Many describe the writing style as boring, unimaginative or downright bad. The characterisation of some of the champions is very simplistic and the whole story framework of the event feels like a big and unfortunate coincidence. Reddit user HandsomeTaco, for instance, describes the backstory as “too reliant on coincidences and contrivances. “

League of Legends fans are obviously disappointed and it seems they are right. It will be interesting to see whether Riot Games will take this feedback as an example and organise such events differently in the future.
