Speculation about Call of Duty 2026 is in full swing. What lies behind the mysterious title Modern Warfare 사 and its Korean context?
Rumors about Call of Duty 2026 are already swirling, and a name and setting may even have been decided: According to several insiders, including the well-known leaker TheGhostOfHope, the new Call of Duty will officially be called Modern Warfare 사
But what does this unusual symbol actually mean?
CoD goes to Korea for the first time
At first glance, the name Modern Warfare 사 seems like a marketing gimmick. But in fact, it could be a conscious decision by the developers that is closely linked to the setting of the upcoming shooter.
EXCLUSIVE: Call of Duty 2026 being developed by Infinity Ward is currently titled as “Modern Warfare 사”.
The campaign is planned to feature both South Korea AND North Korea in a significant role.

Because the character 사 (pronounced:ssah
) is Korean and stands for the number 4 –meaning Modern Warfare 4
According to the leaks, the plot of Modern Warfare 사 is supposed to pick up right where Modern Warfare 3 left off. After General Shepherd’s death at the hands of Captain Price and the murder of Soap by Makarov, Task Force 141 takes center stage once again.
They are supported by the British SAS and the South Korean army. Together, they face Makarov and the Konni group, who want to provoke a third world war through false flag operations on the Korean peninsula.
The double meaning of CoD 2026
But the character 사 is more than just the number four.In Korean, it has a double meaning: on the one hand, it stands for four, and on the other, it sounds exactly like the word fordeath
In many Asian countries, the number four is therefore considered unlucky, similar to the number 13 in the West. The superstition goes so far that hospitals and residential buildings often do not have rooms or floors with the number 4.
Instead, the number is skipped or replaced with letters to avoid negative associations. Elevators often don’t have a button for the fourth floor, and in some buildings, the numbering jumps directly from 3 to 5.
For a game that revolves around death, betrayal, and a possible Third World War, the title could hardly be more fitting.
