On April 1, the extremely popular military simulation War Thunder surprised fans with an almost monumental announcement: in the future, the vehicle battles will be supplemented by an infantry component. This would take the game into a completely new dimension (and also into the territory of titles like Battlefield).

But of course this is all just an April Fool’s jokeand not real at all. Or is it? War Thunder developer Gaijin Entertainment is known for its elaborate April Fools’ jokes – and the infantry update clearly falls into this category. However, there is almost always more to it than just fun!

Because many of the supposed jokes later became full-fledged parts of the game: in 2017, modern military vehicles and helicopters were unveiled for the April Fools’ joke, and now they are a natural part of War Thunder. In 2021, unmanned drones were unveiled as an April Fools’ joke – and a year later they actually made it into the finished game.

Experience shows that the April Fools’ events are prototypes and breeding grounds for new gameplay ideas that can ultimately bear real fruit – provided fans are on board with the concepts.

So there is a good chance that ultimately could actually see infantry combat With a combination of foot soldiers, a huge fleet of land vehicles and tanks, as well as jets and helicopters, the simulation could potentially give the new Battlefield a real headache – especially since War Thunder already has a huge player base.
